Scholarships Awarded

The Community Foundation held the Scholarship Reception on Sunday, June 5th at the Chatham Community Center.  82 scholarships were awarded totaling more than $156,000.  Since its foundation the Community Foundation has awarded more than $2 million in scholarships.

Fund Spotlight!
Fund for Halifax  
 
The Fund for Halifax County is a unique opportunity for citizens, organizations and businesses to help build a permanent endowment to improve and enrich lives in Halifax County.

The Fund for Halifax County was permanently established in 2011 with a gift of $10,000 from the Chastain Home of Halifax, Virginia.  The first gift to the fund was presented by Major General (Ret.) Mayor Carroll Thackston, who served on the Community Foundation Board of Directors for six years. 
 
  Donations can be made to this fund at any time and they can be made in honor or in memory of a loved one.


Now Accepting Grant Applications  

The Grant Cycle is now open.  All applications must be submitted online by Monday, August 8, 2016.  Please keep in mind that the application is a two step process and you must submit both portions in order to have a complete application.  No incomplete applications will be considered.  This is CFDRR's only call for grant applications for the 2016-2017 cycle.

The Legacy Society
 
The Community Foundation is launching a new giving group called The Legacy Society.
 
The Legacy Society is a way for The Community Foundation to honor those who have made a lasting commitment to the Dan River Region. Individuals who designate a gift to CFDRR through a will, trust, retirement plan beneficiary or other planned gift are invited to join our Legacy Society. 
 
Membership is voluntary and free. Bequest gifts of all sizes are important and welcomed. Disclosure of gift amount or type is not required. Legacy members will be celebrated at an annual Legacy Society reception. Members will also be recognized in publications and receive invitations to other Foundation events.
 
If you have made provisions in your estate plans for a deferred gift to The Community Foundation, we would like to recognize you as one of our first members of The Legacy Society.   If you have not previously considered making a permanent gift as a way to leave a legacy and would like to learn more, please give us a call.
