A Backyard Concert Series

Every Saturday in June at 4pm in the courtyard*

*or in the annex in the event of rain.

Just like we did last fall, this summer Hyde Park Library will set up a stage in our backyard with a sound system and plenty of seating. At 4PM each Saturday in June as well as the first Saturday of July there will be a free concert for Hyde Park residents and their friends to enjoy. All are welcome. Please spread the word.

A classical woodwind quintet with Norman Dee on the flute, Ann Chukurianon on the oboe, Leigh Myers on the clarinet and Terry Watson on the horn.

6/11 - Benji Kaplan, Brazilian Jazz

An award-winning guitarist, composer, arranger, multi-lingual vocalist and educator, Benji Kaplan has performed in venues alongside world-renowned artists such as Junior Mance, Bernard Purdie, Earth Wind & Fire, Seu Jorge and Kassin. The son of a percussionist father and a visual artist mother, Kaplan offers a unique look at jazz and classical music informed by his vast musical experiences performing, writing, studying and playing with master Brazilian composers/performers since the age of 18.

6/18 - Flash Company

Local Celtic music trio (Eric Garrison, Jim Pospisil and Bryan Maloney) will bring a taste of Ireland to you wherever you are! Flash Company performances range from the 18th century tunes of O'Carolan to the work of the Chieftains and the rock-inflected work of contemporary artists like Luka Bloom, Touchstone, Cathie Ryan, and Cherish the Ladies. With Jim and Eric both being songwriters, inevitably the band's repertoire includes some choice original songs as well!

6/25 - Hyde Park ChamberEnsemble 

A woodwind quintet from right here in Hyde Park. HPCE includes Linda Rapp (flute), Lory Frankel (oboe), Russell Urban Mead (clarinet), Craig Fryer (French horn) and W. John Knight (Bassoon). Individually, the members of the HPCE have been performing throughout the Hudson Valley region for many years, as soloists, in chamber music ensembles, and with orchestras including the Hudson Valley Philharmonic, the Newburgh Symphony, the Woodstock Chamber Orchestra, and the Hudson Valley Opera Company.

7/2 - Rod MacDonald

A tenor with a clear voice and wide range, MacDonald is often cited for both his musicality and the content of his songs about political and social events: “Rod MacDonald is a brilliant folk singer and composer. His melodic songs possess words that go straight into your heart and soul.” The Press Of Atlantic City. Well known on the local folk scene, Hyde Park Library was lucky that a visit to our backyard stage fit in Rod's busy touring schedule.
