June 2025 Critter Chronicles

Our Favorite Feel-Good Story of the Month

After years of waiting, Millie has found her forever family! Just look at her snoozing peacefully in her new home. This sweet girl spent far too long dreaming of a family to call her own and that dream finally came true. Millie’s journey is a testament to patience, hope, and the power of second chances. Her new family saw the wonderful soul we’ve known all along, and now she’s living the life she always deserved!

June Adoptions

June was a joyful month at GMHS, filled with wagging tails, happy purrs, and heartwarming goodbyes as 98 pets found loving new homes! From playful puppies to wise senior cats, each adoption is a celebration of second chances, and it's all thanks to our compassionate community of adopters, volunteers, and supporters. We’re so grateful to everyone who opened their hearts and homes to a shelter pet this month. Here's to a summer of love, new beginnings, and forever families!

June Shelter Snapshot

The generous support of staff, volunteers, and donors enables GMHS to provide daily care, cover special medical needs, foster animals in homes as needed, and arrange transportation to adoption-guaranteed partners.

Our Foster-to-Adopt program lets you open your heart and home to a shelter dog on a trial basis, giving them a break from the shelter while you both get to know each other. It’s a great way to see if it’s the right fit, and more often than not, it’s love at first snuggle.

Compassionate Community

A big thank you to our partners with Friends of Gloucester County's Community Cats for visiting GMHS and sharing their knowledge with our Humane Heroes campers! Campers got to learn all about community cats, humane trapping, and how TNR (trap-neuter-return) helps save lives and reduce overpopulation.

A big thank you to Abingdon Episcopal Church for including GMHS and our sweet pup Paisley (who found her forever home!) in their wonderful celebration! We’re so grateful for the opportunity to share our mission and connect with such a kind, supportive community. Paisley loved meeting so many new friends (and soaking up all the attention)! Together, we’re making a difference for homeless pets.

Thank you to Seth Craig with SAFE Solutions for teaching a Pet First Aid class to our Humane Heroes campers! Our campers learned important skills to help keep pets safe and healthy, and had a blast while doing it! We're so grateful for community partners like Seth who help inspire and educate the next generation of animal advocates.

A huge thank you to Adam Claar from Thoughtful Dogs for visiting our shelter and leading an incredible professional development session on dog behavior! Our staff learned so much about understanding canine communication, handling techniques, and building better bonds with the dogs in our care. Your insight and passion are making a real difference in the way we support our four-legged friends. We’re so grateful for your time, expertise, and dedication to improving the lives of shelter animals. Thank you for helping us grow!

Thank You to James A Burden & Associates and the Smile Group! We are grateful for your generous donation of pet supplies to our shelter! Your kindness helps keep our animals happy, healthy, and comfortable while they wait for their forever homes. We’re so grateful for your support and for making tails wag and hearts smile!

Shelter Pet Spotlight - Dottie

Dottie wants to be honest about what makes her happiest: she’d love a female-only home where she can feel safe, comfortable, and adored.

Dottie is a sweet and loyal companion who loves gentle affection, cozy naps, and quiet time with her favorite humans. Once she trusts you, her heart (and tail!) are all yours.

Ready to help Dottie live her best, most authentic life? Come meet her at GMHS Tuesday to Sunday from 12-5 PM!
