Fr. Edwin was awarded a Doctorate of Humane Letters, honoris causa, by the New Jersey Institute of Technology on May 18, citing our Headmaster’s contributions to the local community of the City of Newark and beyond. The conferral of Fr. Edwin’s degree, and his subsequent speech, can be viewed here.

Our Headmaster was the closing presenter at the Association of Benedictine Colleges and Universities (ABCU) Leadership Conference on May 25. His talk, entitled “A Beloved Community of Disciples+,” emphasized the essential elements of our Benedict’s community and how we stand in the center of Newark to be a sign of God’s love to the City.

Thanks to the support of the County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo and the Essex County Health Department, Fr. Edwin was able to secure St. Benedict’s as a COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic on May 15, offering the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines. Welcoming all in the community aged 18 and up to register, with walk-ins accepted, more than 70 people were vaccinated. Those who chose the Moderna vaccine will return for the second shot on June 12.
