Notes on June Celebrations from our ED, Emma

Hello Kimiko,

We wanted to share a video message from our Executive Director, Emma, to reflect on the many things to celebrate this month. Click for the whole message!

"June offers us a moment to pause, reflect, and celebrate the many dimensions of our shared humanity. It’s when we honor Pride, a powerful reminder of the strength and beauty in living authentically and loving freely. Pride Month roots us in history, calling us to remember the Stonewall Riots and the generations who fought for the right to be seen, heard, and accepted.

We also recognize Juneteenth, commemorating the emancipation of enslaved Black Americans. It’s both a celebration of freedom and a reminder that the pursuit of justice and equity continues today.

June brings Father’s Day—a moment to appreciate the guidance, care, and presence of fathers and father figures in our lives.

And with the arrival of the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year, we’re reminded to look inward and gather the strength, light, and nourishment we need to keep growing.

As we celebrate progress and joy this month, let us also hold space for those who are still searching—for community, for affirmation, for nourishment, for the simple freedom to be themselves. Let us remind them that they are enough. If you, or a new parent you know needs to be reminded of these things, call or text us on the Warm Line at 1-888-404-7763"

A New Resource for Perinatal Families: The IMAGINE Study

The IMAGINE Study is a pilot program designed to explore how digital peer support groups can help pregnant and postpartum people feel better emotionally and improve their overall well-being. Funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the study is a collaboration between Perinatal Support Washington and the University of Washington. Gigi Perez (pictured) is leading this partnership and you can read more about her passion for making perinatal mental healthcare more accessible, on our blog. The study is open to pregnant and postpartum individuals aged 16 and over to measure whether a virtual interactive group messaging platform (like Slack) improves their well-being and mental health over a 6-month period. If you are interested in joining the pilot program, prospective clients will need to enter through the Warm Line at: 1-888-404-7763.

Myla Rugge Reflects on 15 years of Mom Prom

After 15 years the founder of Mom Prom is hanging up her dancing shoes. Myla's vision for an event that was both fun, and gave back through donations to PS-WA grew over the years into an epic annual celebration. When asked about her inspiration Myla says, "I was surrounded by new moms who were all struggling with the adjustment to having a baby. It was so difficult and so hard. I was struck by the fact that nobody was giving us a high five or praising us for the amount of work we were all doing. We were exhausted. I just thought, 'I want to honor and celebrate all the work that we’re doing and, at the same time, give moms a break.' That led me to the idea of having a party to celebrate and honor moms. It was the party I needed! I wanted to do something that would be fun and give moms the night off while also giving back to all the moms who might need support."
