New BC Apiculture Inspectors

Hello beekeepers of the Cariboo, Thompson and East Kootenay regions.

I’m pleased to share that we’ve hired new bee inspectors for your areas: Stephan Pawloski in the Thompson and Cariboo regions, and Guy Rook in the East Kootenays.

As they get up and running, their schedules may be quite full at first. I appreciate your patience as they get settled in the role and work to coordinate inspections across their regions. We’re very happy to have Stephan and Guy on board and look forward to working with the local beekeeping communities.

You can contact Stephan at Stephan.Pawloski@gov.bc.ca or 250-255-9276.

You can contact Guy at Guy.Rook@gov.bc.ca or 778-687-4044.

Sincerely,

Abigail Chapman, PhD

Provincial Apiculturist

Hygienic Testing - UBeeO Protocol

The BCTTP has been on the road doing hygienic testing in colonies in Merritt and Kelowna. UBeeO™ tests a colony’s efficiency and effectiveness in removing parasitized or damaged brood. By using a simple process of applying UBeeO’s manufactured mixture of naturally occurring brood pheromones and scoring the colony’s response, beekeepers can determine which of their colonies are most hygienic and select them for further breeding.
