Caregiver Safety Tip:

Respond to Falls Safely

Falls can happen even when you follow all safety procedures. If your care recipient falls, it's important to know what to do in different situations to avoid injuring yourself and to keep them safe.

  •  If they fall and you catch them: Slowly lower them to the ground against your body. Don’t trap yourself under them.
  • If they fall and can move and walk: Bring a chair close to them. Help turn them over to their hands and knees and assist them off the floor using proper body mechanics.
  •  If they fall alone and are unable to move: Don’t try to lift them yourself. Call 911.
  • If you’re assisting them from the floor and they’re close to sturdy furniture like a couch, encourage them to pull up on the furniture instead of you.

Volunteer Spotlight

The Volunteer Spotlight for June is... Ellie, a Dining Site Volunteer!

“Hi! I’m Ellie and I’m a volunteer for tri-county at Friendship Manor apartments. I’m a student-athlete at MSU that started volunteering with TCOA in January 2026 and I have loved every second of it. My role consists of serving food to the residents, helping to clean up, and getting the food out and ready before dinner service starts. Getting to know the community there and feeling like I’m making even a little bit of positive difference has been incredibly rewarding and I would recommend it to anyone. I started volunteering at Friendship Manor after suffering difficult mental health struggles throughout 2025 and it helped me regain a feeling of purpose in my life. I can’t wait to return there to continue my volunteering once the Fall semester begins.”

🌟Thank you so much, Ellie, for serving up smiles and meals at Friendship Manor!🌟
