Legislative Round Table

In partnership with Early Learner South Dakota, Coeur Wharf is helping to sponsor a legislative round table for Lawrence County elected officials.

Coeur Wharf is an exemplary example of a for-profit business that understands the importance of Early Learning for the health of its organization and the communities they serve. They are happy to host this legislative round table and are sending a challenge to other communities to take on this process to spread the word on the importance of early learning!

When: June 30, 2021

Time: 7:00am-8:30am

Where: Lodge at Deadwood

Breakfast will be provided. A tour at a local child care center to follow immediately.

Recently, a thousand people across South Dakota completed a survey, funded by SDPB, about early childhood education. This survey showed affordability and access are not equal around the state.

The Early Learner Huron coalition is in the process of compiling an Early Learner Directory for use in our community. Jeclyn Lichty, a student at the University of South Dakota, will volunteer time to assist with this project. The Greater Huron Development Corporation will partner with Jeclyn and the Early Learner coalition on this project. Information will be gathered from local childcare centers and preschool/pre-Kindergarten centers and will be available on the Chamber, Greater Huron and other websites. GHDC President/CEO, Ted Haeder endorses this idea as he understands the connection between workforce development and availability of quality child-care. Ted’s wife has been a daycare director for many years in the Wolsey community.
