Upcoming Library Events & News
June, 2019

The June solstice occurs on the 21st of this month and the Jacob Edwards Library is celebrating the start of summer reading!  This year's theme focuses on all things "space," and throughout the month of June, the Library will have reading contest raffles for adults, teens and children and will host numerous programs for patrons of all ages.  In addition, many new items related to astronomy, astronauts and space exploration have been added  to the collection.   Stop by the library beginning on June 24th to partake in summer reading activities.

Stargazers are invited to view the Milky Way with our telescope! The Library has a telescope available to checkout for those who want a closer look of the skies. Ask at the information desk for more information.

To honor the 14th Pride in Southbridge the Jacob Edwards Library has invited members of The LGBTQ+ History Project of Worcester County and Worcester Historical Museum for an evening of community storytelling and sharing. The presentation will include an overview of what is planned as a larger project to build a sustainable physical and digital archive of Worcester County's LGBTQ+ history. The project is underway and has begun chronicling and archiving the stories of our community members. This effort builds upon materials deposited at the Worcester Historical Museum (WHM) by members of the now defunct Gay & Lesbian Community Coalition of Central Massachusetts (GLCCCM) in 1993.

We encourage you to bring any of your old photos, artifacts, and stories related to being LGBTQ in Southbridge and/or Worcester County. This story is not finished. The physical exhibit, LGBTQ+ Worcester for the Record (on view at WHM), initiates a conversation and we now rely on you to complete, extend, and correct the record. You can raise your voice and be included!
