June is National Pride Month! Every year, the LGBTQIA+ community celebrates throughout June with parades, festivals, parties, educational events, and community activities across Dutchess County and the Hudson Valley. The month highlights the history of the Stonewall Riots and honors influential figures who have driven significant change for the community.

Pride Month is a time for LGBTQIA+ individuals and their supporters to come together to celebrate their strengths, self-worth, and acceptance. It also serves as an opportunity to raise awareness about the issues facing the community, such as violence, discrimination, and unequal rights.

While much progress remains to be made in securing rights and inclusivity for the LGBTQIA+ community, it is important to celebrate the achievements of the trailblazers who have paved the way.

Contribute to the celebration or show your support.

Here are 10 suggestions:

  1. Attend an in-person or virtual Pride parade or event.
  2. Educate yourself on the history of Pride.
  3. Volunteer or donate to LGBTQIA+ initiatives.
  4. Engage with LGBTQIA+ art, movies, books, and culture.
  5. Be an advocate or ally.
  6. Create a Pride playlist.
  7. Host your own Pride party or celebration.
  8. Decorate your home, workplace, or personal space with Pride décor.
  9. Write a card or letter to a friend to show your support.
  10. Wear rainbow clothing and accessories to show your Pride.

How to get through to a kid who’s addicted to screens

Are your kids “addicted” to screens? Some kids may have a hard time creating healthy boundaries with their devices — and parents know the stakes are high. Kids and teens who spend a lot of time on their phones tend to have worse anxiety and depression, feel worse about how they look, don’t sleep as well, and have a harder time concentrating in school and on other activities they love.
