We enjoy framing a wide variety of things in our shop. Bring us almost anything and we can frame it for you.
In this case our client brought in a beautiful, organic, 3D piece of art. Jace was up for the challenge of preserving this amazing piece for years to come!
Framing organic materials presents a unique challenge—how do you protect a delicate, natural object while maintaining its integrity? This project involved object mounting a handcrafted wheat weaving in a custom shadowbox frame, striking a balance between preservation, presentation, and storytelling.
Wheat weaving is a centries-old tradition, often associated with harvest celebrations and folk artistry. This piece, titled "Triple Heart", is intricately woven with black emmer and durum wheat, showcasing both texture and symbolism. The three interlocking hearts suggest themes of unity, love, and heritage, making this not just a decorative piece but a deeply personal one.
Since the artwork is three-dimentional and made from organic materials, a frame with depth was necessary for air circulation and preventing the wheat from being crushed while also minimizing exposure to dust and handling. Jace carefully secured the wheat weaving without damaging it using invisible thread stitches and other archival mounting materials instead of adhesives and harsh fasteners to hold the piece in place, allowing it to appear as if it's floating within the frame.
