June 2021
Greetings!
Happy Pride Month!
Happy Pride!

Our staff and youth gathered for our first Progress Pride Flag unveiling and celebration! Youth from our residential program expressed what it means to them to be a member of the LGBTQ+ community with words and images.

This year, Pride takes on a different significance as Black and Brown trans people are being murdered at the hands of police.

According to the Human Rights Campaign, 28 transgender or gender non-conforming people have been fatally shot or killed in 2021. Read the story here.

This month we remember and say their names.

We continue to fight for justice, LGBTQ rights and equality. We raise our voices and increase visibility, celebrate diversity and inclusion and the LGBTQ+ community’s vibrant culture! We stand in solidarity with Black and Brown people, committed to the work of co-liberation and equity.
Juneteenth - How Will You Celebrate?
Last year, following the demonstrations after the murder of George Floyd, many organizations, including ours, made Juneteenth an official holiday. Juneteenth commemorates the day the last enslaved people in America learned of their emancipation in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865. We will close the agency on Friday in observance of Juneteenth. How will you celebrate? Read our blog to find out!
Fond Farewell

Wayside's Vice President and resident superhero, Betsy Reid, retired last month after 34 years of being a fierce advocate for children, young adults and families.

In her role she taught, mentored and guided staff and managers with a steady hand and open heart. Her decades of experience and clinical oversight positioned the agency for expansion and strengthened our expertise.

Betsy said it best during her retirement celebration:

“Wayside has been central to my identity for over 34 years. Wayside is in my blood, in every cell and it is impossible for me to think about myself without thinking about Wayside."

Thank you, Betsy, for 34 remarkable years!
