At the Governor’s Office of Land Use and Climate Innovation (LCI) and the California Strategic Growth Council (SGC), we celebrate Pride Month and the countless contributions of LGBTQIA2S+ Californians who helped and continue to help shape and strengthen our communities.
We honor Juneteenth, the day — June 19, 1865 — when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, finally learned of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. You can find more about Juneteenth and its significance through the National Museum of African American History & Culture and the California African American Museum.
And we're excited to mark California State Parks Week, June 10-14!

| | June 24 Workshops Highlight Upcoming Funding Opportunities | |
The California Strategic Growth Council (SGC), the Governor’s Office of Land Use and Climate Innovation (LCI), and the Department of Conservation (DOC) are holding two webinars — one for the general public and one for California Native American Tribes — on June 24, 2026, to highlight key state funding opportunities anticipated to open this year. There will be a combined total of more than $300 million in funding available.
Programs include:
All six of these programs will be accepting applications in the mid- to latter half of 2026 for projects that support climate resilience, land stewardship, and community-driven planning.
During the webinar, attendees will receive an overview of each program’s goals, eligibility criteria, anticipated Notice of Funding Availability release dates, application requirements, and available technical assistance.

| Help Us Shape the 2026 Resilient California Summit | |
We are excited to announce that the Call for Session Proposals (CFSP) for the 2026 Resilient California Summit opens June 8.
Taking place Oct. 20-22 in Sacramento, the Summit will convene partners from across the state to make progress on the policies, partnerships, and practices needed to build resilience and respond to the mounting impacts of climate change.
The Summit will feature interactive sessions exploring key insights from California’s Fifth Climate Change Assessment, imagining the best possible future that remains within reach, and catalyzing the actions needed to turn that vision into reality.

| First Glimpse of California's Fifth Climate Change Assessment | |
California’s Climate Assessment fills a critical role in shaping our understanding of climate change, and informing investment and policy decisions at all levels.
Building off previous assessments, the Fifth Assessment prioritizes a community-centered approach to research, focusing on uplifting local priorities and understanding solutions. By partnering with Tribes and engaging with communities throughout the development, this Assessment contributes to a deeper and more holistic understanding of how climate change is affecting communities throughout our diverse state, while offering communities and decision makers the tools to take action.

Over 600 people from across the state joined us at the “Preparing for Impact: Unveiling California’s New Climate Change Projections to Guide our Actions” event this week to learn about the updated climate change projections informing California’s Fifth Climate Change Assessment. The projections we learned about not only identify expected risks across California’s landscapes and communities, but they also help us understand how specific regions, sectors, or issues will be affected by the changing climate.

Calling All Student Artists!
California’s Fifth Climate Change Assessment is seeking bold, original artwork from students in visual arts, illustration, and design that captures the realities of climate change – and resilience – across California.
Through artistic interpretation of the Fifth Assessment’s findings, this project demonstrates the power of art to advance the conversation around climate while offering students an opportunity for statewide exposure.
One selected artist will work directly with the Fifth Assessment team to develop 10 posters for the Resilient California Summit on Oct. 20–22, 2026, in Sacramento, and will receive $5,000 for the rights to use their designs in Fifth Assessment promotional materials.
We invite current students at California public colleges and universities to respond by the extended deadline of June 4.

LCI Marks Military Appreciation Month in May | |
This Military Appreciation Month, LCI took the opportunity to tell stories and advance partnerships.
To start, LCI published a blog on the state’s strong support for defense communities across California.
Then, between May 11-13, our Military Affairs team traveled to Washington, D.C., with members of the Governor’s Military Council for an Association of Defense Communities convening. While there, they built key relationships with other states tackling similar land-use compatibility challenges.
LCI staff then returned to Sacramento for multiple interrelated defense community partnership meetings between May 19-21, including with senior leaders in California from the Air Force, Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Space Force.
Last, but not least, LCI released a Request for Proposals calling for interested contractors to provide support for their California Military Installation Readiness (CalMIR) initiative. Full proposals are due June 15.

| | TCC and CRC Programs Releasing Notices of Funding Availability and Opening Application Periods Soon | | |
We are excited to announce that the Notices of Funding Availability (NOFA) for the Transformative Climate Communities (TCC) Program's Round 6 and Community Resilience Centers (CRC) Program's Round 2 will be released soon. Application periods will also open shortly!
These rounds will make approximately $153.4 million in awards available between the two programs.
Application technical assistance (TA) is available for eligible applicants. Interested parties can fill out the application TA form.
| | Celebrating Milestones for SGC-Funded Affordable Housing Developments Across California | | |
In May, communities statewide celebrated a variety of milestones for state-funded affordable-housing projects, including:

East Palo Alto: 136 affordable homes officially opening, partially funded by $19.8 million from the Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities (AHSC) Program.

Red Bluff: 61 units breaking ground, funded in part by $20.1 million from the AHSC Program.

Coachella: The city's first-ever affordable senior housing complex 52 units, breaking ground, funded in part by a $22.1 million grant for Coachella Prospera from the Transformative Climate Communities Program.

Redwood City: 179 apartment homes officially opening, partially funded by more than $25.4 million from the AHSC Program.

Union City: 81-unit development celebrating first-story wall raising, funded in part by $21.1 million from the AHSC Program.

Oakland: 77-unit complex marking the final phase of construction with a hardhat tour, partially funded by more than $19.5 million from AHSC.

San Francisco: 85-home development celebrating completion of its framework, funded in part by $41.2 million from the AHSC Program.

East Hollywood: 187 apartments officially open, partially funded by nearly $30 million from AHSC.
| | Racial Equity Commission News & Updates | | Commission Travels Across California to Engage Communities in Framework Implementation | | |
The California Racial Equity Commission is continuing statewide community engagement efforts as staff move into the next phase of implementing the California Racial Equity Framework.
Building on previous visits across California, staff are working to deepen relationship building and strengthen connections between community identified priorities, technical assistance efforts, and state agency implementation support at the local, regional, and statewide level. Upcoming engagements include revisits to Salinas and the Sankofa Elders in Los Angeles.
Commission Senior Analyst Jourdan Ringgold-Romero will be presenting practical strategies to CalHR on “Operationalizing the California Racial Equity Framework” on June 11, 2026, from 10–11:30 a.m.
