The World Health Assembly (WHA) Resolution on Strengthening Medical Imaging Capacity is Approved

The ISR is delighted to announce the approval of the World Health Assembly (WHA) Resolution on Strengthening Medical Imaging Capacity.

Cancer and other non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are increasing and disproportionately affecting low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), where access to medical imaging remains severely limited. The Resolution on Strengthening Medical Imaging Capacity seeks to address these inequalities, building on The Lancet Oncology Commission on Medical Imaging and Nuclear Medicine, which the ISR supported and which demonstrated the health and economic benefit of enhancing access to medical imaging and nuclear medicine for cancer.

To advocate for the Resolution prior to the WHA, the ISR, jointly with the World Federation of Nuclear Medicine and Biology (WFNMB), coordinated a multi-society constituency statement, an informal WHA78 meeting for WHO Non-State actors, Member States and the WHO secretariat on April 17, 2025 as well as a successful networking event on the sidelines of the WHA in Geneva.

For more information, please visit the ISR website here.

The ISR was also represented at an event on "Strengthening medical imaging capacity to prevent and control NCDs" as well as at an official WHA78 side event on “Moving towards Action: Strengthening Diagnostics Capacity Through Global Collaboration”, following up on the WHA76.5 resolution on strengthening diagnostics capacity.

ACR Honorary Fellows Recognized

Dr. Boris Brkljacic, ISR President Elect, and Dr. Evelyn Ho were awarded Honorary Fellowship of the ACR at the ACR Annual Meeting in May.

The Board of Chancellors elects Honorary Fellows in acknowledgment of their contributions to the field of radiology.

This distinction is reserved for individuals who, by virtue of residence, education, profession or lack of board certification, remain ineligible for admission as members of the College in any category but international.

Congratulations!!

Acute pulmonary injury can occur in response to any number of inciting factors. The body’s response to these insults is much less diverse and usually categorizable as one of several patterns of disease defined by histopathology, with corresponding patterns on chest CT.

Diagnostic Performance of Contrast-Enhanced T2-FLAIR MRI in the Detection of Meningitie

The contrast-enhanced T2-FLAIR sequence on MRI, through the suppression of CSF and vascular signals, can detect subtle meningeal enhancement in meningitis that may not be appreciable on the routinely used contrast-enhanced T1W sequence.
