June Is Men’s Health Awareness Month

June is Men’s Health Awareness Month. This is a time to highlight preventable health issues and encourage early detection and treatment of conditions such as cancer, heart disease, and depression.

Many common health concerns affecting men, including heart disease, diabetes, and obesity, can often be prevented through proactive care and healthy lifestyle choices. Employers can support men’s health by promoting preventive screenings, encouraging regular checkups, and sharing resources that reinforce healthy habits.

Simple steps like staying active, maintaining a balanced diet, and prioritizing mental health to help men take charge of their well-being.

Avoiding Balance Billing: What Employers Should Know

Unexpected medical bills can create financial stress for employees — even when they have health coverage. A common reason is balance billing, which occurs when an out-of-network provider charges a patient for the difference between what the health plan pays and the provider’s full fee.

Health Insurance How‑To: Avoid Balance Billing explains how these situations most often arise and what members can do to protect themselves. Even care received at an in-network facility can lead to higher costs if any provider involved is out of network.

Helping employees better understand these risks and how to avoid them can support smarter healthcare decisions and reduce surprise costs.

QCARE Post-Discharge Outreach Supports Better Recovery

Patients often forget key details about their care once they leave the hospital, which can lead to complications or readmission. The QCARE Post-Discharge Outreach program helps ensure members continue to receive the support they need after discharge.

Through this program, care managers work directly with members to:

  • Reduce anxiety following discharge
  • Reinforce and clarify care instructions
  • Support communication with providers
  • Identify and address potential concerns early

The program focuses on members who may be at higher risk, including those with complex discharge plans or a history of frequent hospital or emergency visits.

By providing timely follow-up and personalized support, the program helps improve recovery outcomes and reduce the likelihood of repeat hospital stays.
