Pride Month 2022
June 2022
| |
June is pride month! This month reflects on the United States's progress in the fight for justice, inclusion, and equality. Throughout the month of June, LGBTQ+ communities nationwide celebrate to commemorate the ongoing pursuit of equal justice. We celebrate in June because the event that catalyzed the gay rights movement occurred on June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn in New York City. Celebrate this June by attending an event hosted by the SBA or
the Massachusetts LGBT Chamber of Commerce.

Juneteenth marks the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, in 1865 to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people be freed. The troops’ arrival came a full two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth honors the end of slavery in the United States and is considered the longest-running African American holiday. On June 17, 2021, it officially became a federal holiday.
