Join us for the next Essex Museum Speaker Series as Flag Historian Dale Grimes presents:

Escape and Evasion: the Blood Chit Story of WWII.

A blood chit is a notice carried by military personnel, addressed to any civilians who may come across an armed-service member - such as a shot down pilot - behind enemy lines. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the presentation starts at 7 p.m. Visitors may tour the Museum after the presentation. FREE

Jane Austen Day at Manor Mill

Celebrate the life and works of Jane Austen with an afternoon at Manor Mill. Austen enthusiasts will lead book talks on her "big six" novels ranging from Sense and Sensibility to Persuasion. Others will explore her medical woes, poetry, and her lasting effect on publishing. Learn how to dress in regency attire or Meet Mr. Collins. There are plenty of crafting opportunities with make and take period inspired projects and expert demonstrations: everything from spoon carving to basket making.


Presented by the Jane Austen Society of North America and Manor Mill. Proceeds all going to Manor Mill's Water Wheel Restoration Project.

Family Fun with Parachutes

Schools are out and summer aviation fun launches with Family Fun Days at the Glenn L. Martin Maryland Aviation Museum. Saturday, June 17th offers a day with parachutes. Discover the history of parachutes, make a parachute and capture the wind with fellow visitors using a large parachute. Themed activities are held at 11:30am and 1pm.  All activities and tours are included with paid admission.

Antique Automobile Club

The Chesapeake Region of the Antique Automobile Club of America will fill our front parking lot with dozens of  eye-catching antique vehicles on Saturday, July 8 from 11 - 2. Admission to the car show, in our front parking lot, is free. Regular admission applies to come in and visit the Museum.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of a successful partnership between The Glenn L. Martin Maryland Aviation Museum and the Baltimore Chapter of the American Rosie the Riveter Association. Celebrating Susan King’s 99th July birthday is on our July calendar with entertainment at 12:30pm by the musical group Down The Line, a quartet of the Chorus of the Chesapeake.  Members of the ARRA and Rosies are free and asked to RSVP at glmmuseumpr@aol.com. The public is invited to attend with paid Museum admission and join in this salute to Marylanders of The Greatest Generation.

Family Fun with Wings, Wheels and Propellors

Family Fun Day with a parts of an airplane theme when children assemble a 3D airplane puzzle, assemble a popsicle stick airplane to take home, see up close real airplanes and their propellors, wings and wheels. Ramp Signals training sessions will be at 11:30am and 1pm.

Parade Participants Needed

in Dundalk

The Museum is in need of two to three banner carriers to carry the Museum’s name leading our small airplane float throughout Dundalk. The parade begins at 8:15am and arrival time for carriers is 7:45am. If you enjoy saluting the red, white and blue and looking for walking exercise, email glmmuseumpr@aol.com. Rosie Vehicle Needed

The Baltimore Rosies with their 99 year old Rosie Susan King are looking for a convertible or other open vehicle for driving them in the Towson 4th of July parade that begins at 10:30am. 


Rosie Photo Carriers Needed

The Rosies are also in need of Rosie salute carriers, walking with the vehicle and carrying large photos of Rosies.

The Fire Museum

July 4

Look for our antique fire engines in the Towson 4th of July parade on Tuesday the 4th. The parade kicks off at 10:30.

Starting June 1

Extended Summer Hours at the Fire Museum of Maryland begin on June 1. The Museum is open every Wednesday through Saturday from 10 - 4 all summer long. See more than 40 pieces of historic firefighting apparatus, plus thousands of pieces of advertising, artwork, hoses, hydrants, helmets, bells, buckets, and badges. Families love our working fire alarm office and kids' Discovery Room. Lots of free parking. Tickets at the door.

Who is BCHN?


The Baltimore County Heritage Network was formed in 2022, supported by a grant from the Maryland Center for History and Culture’s Miller History Fund. This collaboration of small history organizations around Baltimore County allows us to share our combined strengths. We hope to increase the sustainability and public awareness of our member organizations. More than that we hope to spread our love of our local history and its amazing stories to more people in our region.
