Electricity Comes to Baltimore: Changing Lives and Lifestyles
July 14 @ 2 - 3:30 PM
Location: HSBC Almshouse, 9811 Van Buren Lane, Cockeysville, MD 21030
| Modern Baltimore arrived when delivering power through wires became a reality. Lighting--first along streets, then inside buildings and finally in homes--pushed gas into the past. Baltimore’s trolleys were electrified, first in America, and soon homemakers were utilizing new appliances like vacuum cleaners and washing machines. Electrical power for machinery and factories modernized manufacturing, adding speed, reliability, and flexibility despite adding often-misunderstood dangers from this new power source. This is the story of how the city and her citizens adopted and adapted to the decades it took to truly electrify Baltimore. |

Thank You! The Marshy Point Nature Center Council would like to thank everyone who has enjoyed the history of our park in Chase. We are excited for this summer as we continue to have archaeology dig days and lab days. As we enter June, we look at the year 1788 and celebrate the marriage of Cassandra Bond and James Hamilton. On the 28th this month, raise a glass to the woman who inspired us to journey back in time as her headstone was the catalyst which brought awareness to park goers that a history existed before it being open to the public. Since then, we have been inspired to seek out what has been forgotten. Join us in our journey!
Please reach out to our research chair via email – research_chair@marshypoint.org to learn more about the history of our area. Follow us on Facebook to see other events of interest and our website.

Rosie the Riveter Commemorative Medal Donation
On Wednesday, June 12, the Museum unveiled a donation received from Museum member and Rosebud Pat Collins of a bronze replica of the Rosie the Riveter Congressional Gold Medal to add to the Museum's Rosie exhibit. Members of the Baltimore Chapter of the American Rosie the Riveter Association, including its traveling Eastern Aircraft Rosie Susan King who turns 100 next month, were on hand as first viewers to see it. Pat's donation was dedicated to her mother and aunt, both WWII Eastern Aircraft Rosies. If you had a Rosie in your family and would like information on Rosie chapter activities, email baltimorerosies@aol.com.
