OUR MISSION is to Serve and Equip our Churches to Fulfill the Great Commission

This past month was a month of graduations. I had the privilege of flying with my wife, Shelley, to Boston to attend our son Ian’s graduation from Boston College, where he earned his Master of Educational Leadership and Policy. The very next weekend, our three children who no longer live at home, along with my mom, flew in to see our son Zach graduate from Statesville High School. It was a wonderful time with family and also a great time of reflection.

It doesn’t seem that long ago that I graduated from high school and college myself. Next year will mark 40 years since my UNCG college graduation, and this year marks 20 years since I graduated from seminary at SEBTS. Time truly flies by, and we need to make the best use of the time God has given us.

“For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.” James 4:14

How are you using your time? Are you serving the Lord or serving yourself? Are you growing in your faith and practicing the spiritual disciplines, or are you consumed with worldly things? Are you actively sharing your faith with others?

Time goes by quickly; don’t waste it.

As I reflect on the shortness of life, I also began thinking about our future graduation, when this life is over. The Apostle Paul reflected on this near the end of his life as well.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8

After this life, every person will spend eternity in one of two places. Heaven or Hell. And where we spend eternity is determined by our relationship with Jesus Christ.

How is your relationship with Jesus?

Jesus is the only way to eternal life.

“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6

So don’t waste your life away. Grow in your faith, serve your local church, tell others about Jesus, and look forward to that graduation day when we leave this life and enter the presence of God forever.
