 A MESSAGE FROM PAT
This time of year is always bittersweet at TLC. Vacations and the warm weather are eagerly anticipated. The Katherine Thomas School graduation is one of my favorite days of the year. Celebrating our students' accomplishments with their families, is a wonderful honor.
At the same time the end of the school year sometimes means goodbyes. With a great feeling of pride we say farewell (never goodbye) to KTS students moving on to other opportunities... college, employment, new life experiences. This year we also bid a farewell to KTS Lower/Middle School Director Cathy Burgess, who will be greatly missed.
At the same time, we welcome Pam Kaizar as our next KTS Lower/Middle Director. Farewells and beginnings are a part of life.
Thanks to TLC's Outcomes Service, our graduates may reconnect with us as they transition to new possibilities. We specialize in employment supports and training, and below you will read about social groups, too.
Summer will fly by and football will be with us in the fall. Please share our REDSKINS RAFFLE information with friends and colleagues. This fundraiser is a great chance to win a box at Fed-Ex field for the Redskins game of your choice, including all the bells and whistles.

|  Golfers Get A Hole In One For Supporting TLC!
On Monday June 1st, golfers enjoyed a great, mostly sun-filled day at TLC's 24th Annual Golf Classic at Bretton Woods. The rain tried but wasn't able to dampen our afternoon. T
his wonderful event raised over $47,000 including $5,500 of direct funding for equipment to support Occupational Therapy.

 Pomp & Circumstance at KTHS!
The Katherine Thomas High School's (KTHS) 8th Commencement was held on Monday, June 15th. There were over 250 guests present to celebrate the 14 graduates in the Class of 2015.
The highlight of the ceremony was when each student shared their KTS experience, accomplishments and goals for moving forward. Joy, tears and laughter were shared by all who came to celebrate. The students were honored with individual citations from Ken Reichard, the Assistant to U.S. Senator Benjamin Cardin and KTS received a special proclamation from Bridget Donnell Newton, Mayor of Rockville, Maryland. We were pleased that Marcella E. Franczkowski, Assistant State Superintendent, from Division of Special Education Early/Intervention Services offered her congratulations to the students as well.
TLC's very own, Dr. Patricia
Ritter, was the keynote speaker and she successfully shared her words of wisdom by including spec
ial quotes from each student.
It was a wonderful day to see the PRIDE of KTHS and we wish our new alumnus a successful journey onward.

Annual Dinner Celebration
 At The Annual Dinner, TLC recognizes Board members, staff and members of the community to thank them for their contributions to the mission of TLC. At this year's celebration at Normandie Farms in Potomac, Employer of The Year went to Wegmans Food Market for their ongoing commitment to hiring and successfully employing individuals with disabilities.

 TLC Staff Bring Fun and Laughs to Rockville Hometown Holidays
Memorial weekend brought a lot of new and old friends to TLC's booth at Rockville's Hometown Holidays! TLC's Family Hearing Center Director Susan Yaffe-Oziel, Speech-Language Services Director Christina Morrisey and Administrative Services Director Julie Bobrow had a great time at the event! The booth was all about fun, but the message was clear - TLC is in the community and we are here to serve individuals with special needs!

FHC Takes The Show On The Road, To Asbury
Family Hearing Center takes hearing healthcare on the road. Since January, staff have been visiting Asbury residents. FHC holds a walk-in clinic the second Tuesday of every month for residents who wear hearing aids, need assistance with problems or have questions. This is just one activity in our on-going partnership with Asbury. Director Susan Yaffee-Oziel gives talks and attended meetings related to Asbury campus life specializing in the health and well being of the residents.

 GMMB Hosts TLC's Outcomes for Employer Information Event
A heartfelt thank you to the staff and partners at GMMB for hosting the
employer event, Hiring Adults with Disabilities: Shifting Expectations and the Support Available, on May 12.
Our main focus was sharing information about how adults with disabilities contribute to a successful workplace. Additionally, we appreciated to opportunity to educate the community about Rule 503. In short, a
year ago, the U.S. Department of Labor took a step forward by issuing new regulations (Rule 503) to improve job opportunities for individuals with disabilities, urging all federal contractors to meet a 7 percent utilization goal. So whether or not you are a federal contractor, individuals with disabilities are an untapped resource ready to work and add value to your organization.
The Outcomes Service helps organizations build and provide support to a workforce of dedicated, high-quality employees that includes adults with disabilities. If you would like to learn more, contact Nick Heynen at 301.294.9205.

Outcomes and KTS Alumni, Working Together
Outcomes provides opportunities for TLC's Katherine Thomas School alumni through support for employment. Alumni from KTS get together periodically for supervised social opportunities in the community. This go 'round the group visited Rockin' Jump for a fun evening of trampolines, pizza and friends.
Outcomes also is an outstanding resource for finding and keeping jobs for our alumni.
"D" is an alumnus from KTS. D came to Outcomes in July 2012 and has been working with Outcomes Employment Specialist Reka Daroczi. After two successful job placements, D was hired as a full-time, permanent cashier at Wegman's.
Recently Wegman's was honored as TLC's Employer of The Year. D wrote about his experiences... "
I think Wegman's deserves the award for Employer of the Year because they do many things right for their employees. To begin with, everyone is friendly -- from the bosses to the workers. They treat me with respect and their training was very complete and helpful. By the time I was put in as a cashier, I felt ready for the job. They also pay very well I also notice that they treat the customers very well. I've worked at other places where they don't treat the customers well. I really like working at Wegman's."

NEWS FROM KTS
 A special thank you and the fondest farewell to Cathy Burgess, our Lower/Middle School Director. Cathy has decided to retire after this school year. We support Cathy's transition to this next stage of her life, but are saddened to lose her. Cathy has been a wonderful asset to KTS and the entire community. We will all miss her tireless enthusiasm, endless caring for students, and her sunny disposition. Fortunately we have secured a strong replacement, Pam Kaizar who, as the new Lower/Middle School Director, will lead the next stage of our KTS history.
KTS students shared their inspirational work at this year's Spring Art Show. Paintings, drawing, mixed media and sculpture were displayed to the delight of fellow students, staff, family and friends. Art teacher Marit Gretz puts together of stunning display every year.

Concerts at KTS continue to amaze the audience. KTS has many outstanding programs and arts instruction is at the top of that list! At right, KTS Music Teacher Chris Marousek and his students performing an amazing rendition of R.E.M.'s The One I Love.
