Kirkwood Rd. Project Comments
Comments are still being accepted for the Kirkwood Rd. Project. The form to submit your comments about this project can be found here.

About the project:
The City applied and obtain federal funding for a resurfacing project from Adams Ave. to Swan Ave. on N. Kirkwood Rd. This project includes a Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon between Washington Ave. and Bodley Avenue, a lane reduction to allow for a safer pedestrian mid-block crossing, and upgrades to sidewalks within the project limits.

The lane reduction is included in many City Planning documents including the Kirkwood Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plan, EnVision Kirkwood 2035 Plan, and the Downtown Kirkwood Master Plan. The City has completed a traffic study, which can be found here

The City has selected CMT Engineers to complete the preliminary design. A demonstration of the proposed lane reduction started on April 10 and ran through Mid-May.

A public meeting is expected to occur in Summer 2023 for the public to review the preliminary plans and make comments. Once a date for the public house has been determined it will be sent out via email, posted on the City's website and published in the Webster Kirkwood Times.

Right now the project is still in the design phase. A copy of the preliminary plans for review can be downloaded here.
Scam Alert!
A resident informed us that they received a call from someone telling them that they had a credit on their electric bill. They asked for the individual’s Visa information so that they could put the credit back onto their Visa card.

If you receive a call like this please be aware that this is a scam. The City of Kirkwood will NOT call you if you have a credit on your account. That credit will roll over onto the next month’s bill unless the resident calls the City and requests a check.

STAGES
AIDA
A timeless love story for the ages, Disney’s AIDA tells the tale of the transcendent love triangle between Aida, a Nubian princess stolen from her country; Amneris, an Egyptian princess; and Radames, the soldier they both love. Set in a time of great turmoil in ancient Egypt, this story of forbidden love has thrilled audiences for over twenty years. Wrapped in an electric Tony and Grammy Award-Winning score by Elton John and Tim Rice, AIDA is both a stunning musical theatre experience, and an uplifting story of faith, duty, and redemption.
Hot Dog Dayz of Summer
The Kirkwood Police Department and Kirkwood Parks/Recreation Department are once again teaming up this summer to reach out to Kirkwood and Oakland children. On Fridays, beginning June 16th, we will go to the following parks on the scheduled dates to provide a HOT DOG lunch, play games with the children and converse with the parents. We feel this is a great way for the children to interact with the Police Department on a positive basis and for the children to know they can come to the Police for help.

Each week, the Kirkwood Library will be participating with books for the kiddos.

Additionally, our great friends and Kirkwood’s own, The GymGuyz, will help burn some youthful energy with exercise drills for the whole family.

Gardening Tips

Tips from the Kirkwood Garden Club
for June....
Thank you to everyone attending and supporting the Kirkwood Garden Club Annual Plant Sale. Money raised from the sale benefits a scholarship as well as the Train Station gardens on the east and west side of Kirkwood Rd.

With the rainy weather and some schedule issues I've had, I'm still trying to get my gardens planted. I've gone from the original plan to Plan B, and in one area to Plan C. One area was to become the location for some vegetable plants. Previously a very large spirea had been located in this area. Too many roots made it difficult to till the area. Ergo Plan B. The vegetables will now be grown in pots. This may be a blessing in disguise since there is mole activity heading into that space Plan C. The moral of the story is to be flexible. When things don't work out, save your energy and find a different way to achieve your goal. Mother Nature is a tough foe to outwit.

Gardening adage regarding perennials, shrubs, and trees....
The first year they sleep
The second year they creep
The third year they leap

That is proving true for a lot of plant material this year. If you are buying, moving, dividing, or planting make sure you allow for mature growth. Three years ago a friend gave me a hosta she didn't have room for. She didn't know anything about its size but thought it would be compact. Wrong! it's trying to take over the porch.

If you plan to trim shrubs or trees, take a close look before you start working. I discovered a cardinal nest in my rose bush. I'm now awaiting the hatching of four baby cardinals.
