June 2020
Congratulations to the
MECK Pre-K Class of 2020!
It's hard to believe that we have completed another year of MECK Pre-K! Beginning this week, MECK Pre-K classrooms will begin celebrating graduation for the over 1,200 students who have completed the program this year. We are excited to see these bright young children enter kindergarten in the fall with all of the skills and knowledge they have gained in MECK Pre-K.

Note: Because of COVID-19, centers are planning no-contact celebrations such as a "parade of cars" for their students. Families will receive details about celebrations from their individual centers.
Is Your Child a MECK Pre-K Superstar?
We miss our MECK Pre-K students, and we want to see their smiling faces. So we’re launching a MECK Pre-K Superstars Competition! There are three ways you can participate:

  1. Post a photo or video of your child completing their classwork for MECK Pre-K and tag us using @MeckPreK.
  2. Post a video of your child talking about what they love and miss about MECK Pre-K and tag us using @MeckPreK.
  3. If you would like to participate, but don’t want to share a photo/video of your child, you can share this graphic to your feed instead.

The top 3 Superstars with the most likes on their post will be featured on our social media feeds to over 1,800k+ followers. So be sure to tag plenty of your friends, especially those you may want to apply for MECK Pre-K in the fall! We have seats open for more applications!
MECK Pre-K Registration Extended
COVID-19 has created a lot of uncertainty in our community. But one thing that is still certain is that access to pre-k education is valuable and important. As we look to the future, the need for a quality education is more important than ever. That’s why we are making it easier for families to register for MECK Pre-K for the 2020-2021 school year.

We normally wrap up our spring registration campaign in May, but due to the impacts of COVID-19, we are extending that campaign into the summer. Space is limited in MECK Pre-K, so it is important for families to plan ahead for the fall and register now.

While the MECK Pre-K offices are closed to the public, families can still submit applications and required documents for enrollment for the 2020-2021 school year.
  • Download the forms at meckprek.org/meck-pre-k-enrollment. Families unable to download and print the forms can email info@meckprek.org or call 704-943-9585 to request forms by mail.
  • Submit paperwork via email at info@meckprek.org or fax at 704-377-1824.
  •  Include the child’s name in the subject line of the email or on the fax cover sheet so MECK Pre-K staff can match it to your application.

Screenings and in-person application drop-offs are postponed at this time.
A "Promising" Donation
MECK Pre-K recently received a donation from Promising Pages, a local nonprofit that collects donated books and distributes them to children in the Charlotte area. They donated copies of the book "A Dragon in a Wagon." These donated books will be distributed to all MECK Pre-K families.

"We are grateful to Promising Pages for these wonderful books, which will provide our families with a greater variety of reading material at home," says MECK Pre-K Director Trinisha Dean.
All MECK Pre-K families will receive a copy of "A Dragon in a Wagon" to read over the summer.

MECK Pre-K Testimonial
At the recent Mecklenburg County public budget hearing, several individuals spoke about MECK Pre-K. One parent had this to say about her son and their experience.

"I am so thankful for MECK Pre-K. I know the program has been helpful to Emory. He’s learning so many new things. One day he is telling me about the solar system and the next day, he is telling me about storm clouds. He is just soaking up all the lessons with an excitement that’s great to see.

"He knows his letters now and can write his name. He also enjoys the read-alouds and I like reading with him in the evening. Emory is smart. He has learned so much. I know he will be ready for kindergarten and we have MECK Pre-K to thank for that."

Important Community Updates
Make Sure You and your Child are Counted!
The 2020 Census is happening now, and it's very important that young children are counted. The census count brings resources to our community for education, healthcare, nutrition and more. This video explains why it is important to include children in the census count.

Make it Count! by completing the census for you and your family.
Kindergarten Registration
We strongly encourage all of our MECK Pre-K families to begin thinking about Kindergarten Registration for the fall. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools has provided the following resource page for families to learn more about registering for the 2020-2021 school year.
