Announcing! New Grant Funds Speech and Swallowing Study in Persons with Down Syndrome

We are all so proud of Krista Wilkinson, CRDSS Board President. She and her team have been awarded a $3.3M grant from National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders to study the mechanisms of speech and swallowing in individuals with Down syndrome. We will report to you as this project takes place, and CRDSS members will learn from the grant team how they might choose to engage. This study is expected to bring remarkable advancements in health and understanding to our beautiful community.

Frisbee Golf for Our YES21! Crew!

Our friends at the Good Day Cafe have a Disc Golf outing planned and invite our YES21 crew to join!

High Line Frisbee Golf

Sunday July 2 at 2pm

The event is with the very same Edgar of High Line Frisbee Golf that regularly hosts the YES21 Crew. The Good Day Cafe would like to invite individuals from YES21 to join in this Sunday since their recent outing was cancelled. Interested individuals should text or call Katie Feliz at (814) 574-7381 to secure a spot and provide contact information in case of a weather cancellation.

YES21! is a CRDSS program for our young adults, ages 18+

Funding Opportunity for Transition Conference

August 9 & 10, 2023

Penn Stater Conference Center

The two-day conference aims to expand the capacity of youth, family members, schools, and community partners regarding specific issues related to effective employment and post-secondary educational practices, development of healthy lifestyles, and the utility of assistive technology, resources, supports, and services available to youth and families.

Featured Presenter: Chris Nikic

Chris Nikic set a new world record by being the first person with Down Syndrome to complete a 140.6-mile Ironman. His mission is to inspire others like him to pursue their dreams and goals. His greatest achievement is showing others how shifting your focus from your disabilities to your abilities and pursuing your dreams with an unwavering tenacity, a positive attitude and a no-quit grit can help anyone achieve their goals and dreams.
