A record-breaking crowd joined us for the 17th Annual Westshore Development Forum presented by Highwoods Properties. Alliance President Julie Harris Herndon welcomed nearly 300 guests to the AMC Theatres at WestShore Plaza, followed by opening remarks from City of Tampa Mayor Jane Castor. Event highlights included real estate market updates, transportation improvement initiatives, and a panel discussion on major planned developments that will help shape Westshore's future.

PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC), which had committed last year to lease the majority of space in the 10-story, 250,000-square-foot MetWest III building under construction, has exercised an option to take all the remaining available space there. In addition to MetWest III, PwC currently occupies the 250,000-square-foot MetWest II, the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co.-developed building that is also part of the 32-acre business park. PwC employs roughly 3,000 in Westshore for various shared services functions, and the company expects to add at least 350 new workers to its regional operation as part of the expansion. MetWest III is slated for delivery in August. MORE
Concourse Center, a four-building office complex on Frontage Road, has been sold to North Carolina investor Dilweg Cos. The company plans to invest more than $4 million to improve the buildings' operating systems, common areas and tenant amenities. MORE
The 180-room Current Hotel at 2545 N. Rocky Point Dr. is scheduled to open this month, bringing shopping, dining and a 4,000-square-foot rooftop lounge with panoramic views of Tampa Bay. MORE
International Plaza and Bay Street has filed plans with the City of Tampa to add a one-story, 39,000-square-foot cinema and a two-story, 31,000-square-foot bowling alley. The new developments would be built between the Nordstrom parking deck and the parking outside of Bay Street, the mall's restaurant corridor. MORE
Mainsail Lodging & Development, headquartered in Westshore, is one of six property management companies chosen for the launch of Homes & Villas by Marriott International, the global hospitality leader's new home rental offering. Marriott International's nearly 130 million members of its new travel program Marriott Bonvoy will have access to Mainsail rental properties located in Anna Maria Island, Florida. MORE
Chicken Salad Chick held its grand opening last month at 4050 W. Kennedy Boulevard. Menu items include chicken salad sandwiches, fresh side salads, gourmet soups, turkey club and turkey pesto sandwiches.
MHK, formerly known as MedHOK Inc. and part of the Hearst Health network, recently celebrated the grand opening of its new 30,000 square-foot corporate headquarters at 3031 N Rocky Point Drive West, Suite 300. MORE 
Following a multi-million renovation, the Crowne Plaza Hotel Tampa is reopening this month as the Hotel Alba, a Tapestry by Hilton property. In addition to guestroom upgrades, public space renovations include an expanded lobby area with a gourmet-to-go cafe, an art gallery featuring original artwork by students and alumni of the Savannah College of Art and Design, and the addition of a signature restaurant featuring open-air dining and dishes from locally-sourced ingredients. Midtown Tampa Goes Vertical 
The Bromley Companies celebrated the start of vertical construction last month at its Midtown Tampa development. The 22-acre, $500-million site will include retail and office buildings, entertainment, and hospitality.  Highwoods Properties will partner with Bromley on more than 700,000 square feet of office space within Midtown Tampa. The 150,000-square-foot Midtown One will be the first of the three buildings with construction slated to begin in the fourth quarter of this year and wrap up in the first quarter of 2021. MORE

FDOT gives bird's eye view of proposed Westshore Interchange
The Florida Department of Transportation held public workshops on May 21 and 23 for the Tampa Interstate Study Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS), which includes the Westshore Interchange and Downtown Interchange. At the workshops, a new video was shown with the proposed changes to the Westshore Interchange and the Veterans Expressway.

The workshops and open public comment period are required as part of the SEIS to determine the future of the Tampa interstate system. To learn more about the proposals, view more videos, or send in public comment, visit the public workshop page.
MPO to consider Transportation Improvements June 11
The Hillsborough County Metropolitan Planning Organization will conduct a public hearing on June 11 for their annual adoption of the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). The TIP is a five-year plan for priority transportation projects for Hillsborough County. Included in the list is the reconstruction of the Westshore Interchange and a number of other projects identified in the Westshore Transportation Action Plan. The Westshore Alliance has written a letter in support of the adoption of the TIP. More information is available at the TIP home page.
Plan the future of Tampa Bay transit with Envision 2030
The Tampa Bay Area Regional Transit Authority (TBARTA) wants to hear your ideas for regional transit in Tampa Bay with the Envision 2030 Regional Transit Development Plan survey. Envision 2030 will examine modes and strategies that can best serve the TBARTA area, which includes Hernando, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, and Pinellas counties. Take the survey here.
Powerline project to impact Cypress Street and Cypress Point Park traffic
Tampa Electric crews will begin work next week to underground an existing powerline that runs along Old Tampa Bay. Traffic on Cypress Street at Cypress Point Park will be impacted occasionally during the next few months as the new line is installed from the west end of Cypress St. to the Grand Hyatt Hotel. National Bike Month includes two new Bike Friendly Businesses in Westshore
AECOM and McKibbon Hospitality were awarded Bicycle Friendly Business Certifications by the League of American Bicyclists in May, which is National Bike Month. AECOM received a Silver designation and McKibbon received a Bronze designation. They join previous Bronze awardee Cigar City Brewing as the only Westshore-based businesses to be certified. There are now 43 total certified Bicycle Friendly Businesses in Tampa, second most in the nation, behind only Fort Collins, CO (61).

Take the Tampa Bay Commuters Pledge to improve your commute
From now through the end of June 2019, commuters around Tampa Bay will pledge to commute to work through public transit, biking, carpooling, walking, and teleworking. Commuters traveling for work or school to/from Hillsborough and Pinellas counties can take the pledge for any mode at any time. Weekly prize winners will be drawn from the mode of the month pledges (June: Telework/Compressed Work Week), announced on the website TampaBayCommuters.com

New City of Tampa Hurricane Re-Entry Program
The City of Tampa Hurricane Re-Entry Program is for residents and businesses in the areas most likely to be evacuated during a hurricane event (within Zip Codes 33602, 33605, 33606, 33607, 33609, 33611, 33616, 33619, 33629 and MacDill Air Force Base 33621 see map). It is designed to make it easier for residents and business representatives to re-enter the area after evacuation orders have been lifted.

This new City of Tampa program replaces the re-entry program that was previously managed by Westshore Alliance. The City of Tampa Office of Emergency Management is in the process of mailing hang-tags to commercial property owners in the Westshore District that are located within the zip codes identified above.
