President's Note

Hello Friends,

We had a very successful Spring Art Show! I would like to thank everyone for being a part of this delightful and eloquent show. It takes a village to put on this size of a show and we are grateful to all the volunteers! We also want to thank the public for coming and supporting their local artists! We thank and appreciate the local Mass Cultural Councils for supporting us in grants to help pay the expenses that we accumulated in setting up this show.

We can't rest. We are working on completing our art gallery project to be able to have a Grand Opening in August. We set the date and are working hard to stay on schedule.

Now that we have our own gallery, new jobs have to be created. If there is something you are interested in below on the list, let me know at [email protected] or 978-407-1419
  1. Painting and cleaning the barn
  2. Maintaining the Art Gallery
  3. Yard work, gardening and mowing
  4. Light house cleaning
  5. Be on the Gallery Committee
  6. Help with scheduling art shows and workshops
  7. Supervise art shows and workshops
  8. Help in the gallery
  9. Maintain the membership database in Excel
  10. Computer work, working on the internet, Dropbox, Jotform
  11. Maintain the Website
  12. Office work and keeping supplies organized
We are looking for some artwork to hang in our new gallery during our Grand Opening. If you would like to show a few of your pieces, let me know. They will be displayed for about a month. Then we will be having a photography show in October. Email me photos of your artwork and I will get back to you. Space is limited.

Reminder: If you are planning on entering our "Paint the Town" Art show with Gallery Sitka in July then you better get started now! Not only will there be ribbon awards, there will also be cash awards. This will be fun!

Reminder: Coming to our Artist Critique this Saturday, June 2nd? Don't forget to register. When you register it allows us to know that you are coming and if the critique needs to be rescheduled for some reason then we have a way of contacting you.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Stella Arvanetaki to exhibit at the Jaffrey Civic Center
Jaffrey Civic Center, Jaffrey, NH

The Jaffrey Civic Center will host an exhibit of oils by Stella Arvanetaki beginning June 1 - June 29 in the Cunningham Gallery. There will be an opening reception from 5 to 7 pm on Friday, June 1st. Stella, as she is called by her friends, is a mother, nurse, wife, homemaker, gardener, and most important an artist. Having an innate ability, and formal art schooling, she has put to paint and canvas her thoughts and visions. Each rendering has a message, whether a simple country scene or a complex portrait. Although the art is two dimensional, she leaves a portion of herself in each and every piece of art, creating that third dimension of a free spirit. Using her God given talent, she has developed "Stella's Corner" a non-profit business, with all income given to needy charities, national, state and local. This priority has become her calling card, and has become a driving force in her creativity. Stella has a BSN as well as a MBS specializing in children with severe behavioral problems and adults on life support. She taught children art having to use latex house paint and worked with the adults as long as they had use of their hands and on two occasions utilized the use of toes. Stella has shared with many that these two opportunities were the most satisfying experiences of her art career.

The Jaffrey Civic Center is located at 40 Main Street, Jaffrey, New Hampshire, next to the Library, parking in rear. Hours are Monday-Friday from 10am to 5pm (closed 12-1pm), Sat 10am-2pm. Admission is always free. For more information about us, call 603-532-6527, e-mail us at [email protected], visit our website, or "Like" us on Facebook.

"Magic and Flow: A Collection of Contemporary Paintings," by Dave Hay, on view at The Greenfield Gallery, June 7 through July 21, 2018, with an artist's reception Friday, June 22, 6 to 8 p.m.

Dave Hay likes to have fun when he paints - and it shows. His paintings are bright, energetic and playful. The retired public school art teacher and break dancer describes his aesthetic as: "Color, cool, and a sparkle of fun."

The Springfield artist's exhibit, "Magic and Flow: A Collection of Contemporary Paintings," will be on display at The Greenfield Gallery, June 7 through July 21, with an artist's reception on Friday, June 22, 6 to 8 p.m.

Hay's exhibit includes both abstract and "pop portraits," all painted in his bold palette.

"I like to have fun and make it colorful," Hay says. "You can tell when something 'clicks' in the artwork; it's authentic. You can tell the artist was connected to it and had fun creating it."

Sculptures by Ron Edwards
Nina's Nook, Turners Falls, MA

Mixed Media Sculpture by Ron Edwards
Nina's Nook presents Sculptures by Ron Edwards
May 12 to June 23

Ron Edwards is a retired mathematics professor and a self-taught artist. The small scale mixed media sculptures on display in this show are made from wood collected along rivers and in forests in western Massachusetts. These are painted with acrylic paint and often have handmade or found  objects affixed to them.

On his trips through the wood and along rivers, Edwards always uses a walking stick. In the last few years, the 82 year-old artist turned to making walking sticks. Each uniquely detailed stick in this show has a specific theme painted in acrylic paint.

Edwards is also the founder of Little River Press, which specializes in volumes of poetry, post card series, graphic art works, and conceptual art projects.

Nina's Nook is next to the Black Cow Burger Bar at 125A Avenue A in Turners Falls, Mass. Hours are Thursday, Friday and Saturdays from 12 to 5 p.m. and by appointment or chance: 413-834-8800.

Colored Pencil with Kendra Ferreira
November 2018

In this fun and informative workshop students will learn to create vibrant drawings with the simple tool of colored pencils by layering colors, blending, burnishing, and creating rich darks and vibrant colors. Colored pencils are an easy transported medium and can be used for simple sketches to complex layered drawings. In this workshop we will be combining and learning about dry colored pencils with watercolor pencils and how this mixed media approach allows for a quicker build up of color and value. Artists of all levels will enjoy expanding the boundaries of this versatile colored pencil medium.

We will begin with a short discussion on materials then a demo about applying the pencils, mixing and layering colors and burnishing. Students will then work from a still life set up or photos if they wish. I like to work individually with each student during the workshop to their own abilities. Some materials will be provided, I do have some colored pencils and watercolor pencils for students to borrow during the workshop. Registration form
