Stimulation - Knowledge - Interaction - Fun

Dear Members and Friends,
As we head into the summer season I am grateful for these warmer days, the abundance of gardening activity around the island, endless opportunities for outdoor recreation, and most of all the strength and spirit of all of you as we adapt to a different "normal." Lots of hard work still ahead, but we are now busy planning for fall classes and events - online of course!
This month Ann Caswell will present a talk on Frederic Edwin Church's "Twilight in the Wilderness." And, Andrea Lepcio continues her beginning yoga class at least through June.
Take good care and stay in touch,
Janice

Online Presentation with Ann Caswell
|
|
"Twilight in the Wilderness"
Thursday, June 11 at 4:00 pm
.
Ann Caswell will examine the iconic Maine landscape painting by Frederic Edwin Church. She will discuss how each element in the composition reveals aspects of the ideological currents of the early 19
th century. We will see how this work by Church is connected to the works of Cole, Emerson, and Thoreau, among others. In this way, we can explore political, spiritual, economic, artistic, and scientific trends from the era of the New England Renaissance of the 1830s up to the time of the Civil War.
The presentation will be offered via Zoom and will be about an hour and a half, with a short break in the middle and a few minutes for Q&A at the end.
Click the button below to register for the talk and receive a link to the Zoom presentation. Limited to 30 participants.

Andrea Lepcio Continues Her Free Online Yoga Class
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10:00 a.m.
This wonderful free class continues at least through the month of June. The class is open to everyone, and new participants are welcome!
In the privacy of your own home, Andrea introduces you to yoga poses and breathing practices. Step by step you will learn sun salutations, standing poses, seated poses, balance, back bend and twisted poses.
Andrea offers modifications for those able to get up and down from the ground and for those who prefer to sit or be supported by a chair. We will go slow and have fun as we become more aware of our bodies.
You do not have to commit to every class session. Click the button below to register for the class and receive a link to the Zoom session.

NOTE - If you are already registered for this class, you do not need to register again.

Fall Course Preview
The Curriculum Committee is finalizing the fall course line up with a selection of interesting classes to be offered online.
We will be "publishing" our fall brochure electronically and will send it by email toward the end of June or early July. Class descriptions will also be posted on the website as usual.
Once the fall schedule is completed, I will be contacting those of you who are still registered for a class that was moved from the spring to the fall semester to give you the opportunity to save your place in the class.
Online registration is scheduled for July 15th

Hearing Assistance Surveys
|
|
Yes, this month we have two surveys!
The first is a short survey from ASC to assess the hearing needs of our members to help us research possible hearing assistance technologies. The second, from Sacramento State, gathers information
about living with hearing loss during the current COVID-19 pandemic
.
Both surveys are short and anonymous. Please help and take a moment now to fill out both surveys. Thank you.

Still time to donate
As we navigate these different times, take a moment to reflect on everything Acadia Senior College provides us - stimulation, knowledge, interaction, and fun. We
will adapt and move forward with these same goals in mind.
You can
donate online, or by mail (PO Box 475, Southwest Harbor, ME 04679). Or, perhaps consider becoming a monthly donor to help us fulfill our mission.

Voting is open
This year our Annual General Meeting will be held
virtually
by the President, Secretary and Administrator for the purpose of tabulating member votes.
Election results for ASC Board Members and Officers will be posted next week. Meanwhile, if you have not voted and wish to do so, the deadline for electronic voting is 5:00 p.m. on June 4, 2020.
