Case of the Month
Requests for private practice follow-up with clients
Mark works in a local hospital with people recovering from a recent stroke. Sometimes clients or their families will ask Mark if he can continue to provide rehabilitation services in their homes after discharge. Mark does have a private practice but so far, he has not taken on any clients he's seen at the hospital.

With more requests coming from clients, he wonders if he could give his contact information for his private practice services.
Practice Q&A
Appointment Book for Clinical Sessions
Question: Do I have to keep the appointment book that I use to book clinical sessions?
COVID-19 Updates
Roadmap to Reopen in Progress
The reopening of the province continues as outlined in the Roadmap to Reopen. The Roadmap is a three-step plan to reopen the province.

Ontario entered Step 1 of the roadmap on June 11, 2021. Learn more about Step 1 and the plan for reopening Ontario on the government website.

Please note, the two emergency orders listed below remain in effect. These orders authorize:

  • regulated health professionals to provide patient care services outside their regular scope of practice and enables hospitals to employ, contract, appoint or otherwise engage regulated health professionals from out-of-province (O. Reg. 305/21, approved and ordered April 21, 2021), and
  • Independent Health Facilities (IHFs) to redeploy staff to hospitals on a voluntary basis to help with capacity needs relative to the third wave of COVID-19 (O. Reg. 304/21, approved and ordered April 21, 2021).

Please continue to check the College and government websites for updates. You can also follow us on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.

Quality Assurance
2021 PREP coming soon!
The 2021 Self-Assessment, Professional Development Plan and Prescribed Regulatory Education Program (PREP) will be available in MyQA in late June. Watch your inbox over the next few days for a notice that the 2021 PREP is available!

In anticipation of the 2021 PREP, we are sharing some feedback about the 2020 PREP: Managing Risks in Occupational Therapy Practice.

We received more than 1600 responses, with data including:
  • 94% found the PREP relevant to their practice
  • 91% found the PREP helpful in increasing their knowledge, and
  • 79% stated they will implement changes in their practice as a result of the information gained from the PREP.

Registrants commented that:
  • they valued the diversity of the images that were presented
  • they appreciated the English and French PDF versions
  • the interface was user-friendly, and
  • they appreciated the clickable references and College resources.

Registrants asked that we try to:
  • consider pandemic implications to practice, and
  • include more varied scenarios, including non-clinical and virtual practice.

We appreciate your feedback. We are keeping the elements that worked well the same this year, while changing others to better meet registrant learning needs. We hope you will find the 2021 PREP useful to your practice.
Information on Virtual Services
New changes effective June 1, 2021
Effective June 1, 2021, occupational therapists outside of Ontario who are providing virtual service to clients residing in Ontario no longer require temporary registration with the College. Service may be provided based on the occupational therapist’s existing registration in their province.

The rules for in-person services are unchanged. Occupational therapists registered outside of Ontario who are providing in-person services to a client residing in Ontario must obtain temporary or general registration with the College

These changes will be reflected in the upcoming revisions to the Guidelines for Telepractice practice document, which is being updated and released in July under the new name “Virtual Services.”
