Pet Care Corner:

June Wellness Reminders for Cats & Dogs

As summer arrives, it's a great time to stay proactive with your pet's preventive care and wellness needs. Warmer weather can bring increased parasite exposure, outdoor injuries, and heat-related concerns for pets throughout the Tri-Valley.

This month, we recommend:

🩺 Reviewing Preventive Care Plans

Flea, tick, and heartworm prevention remain important year-round in California.

📋 Checking Vaccine Status Before Travel or Boarding

Many boarding facilities, groomers, and travel destinations require current vaccines and medical records.

🌡️ Watching for Signs of Heat Stress

Older pets, flat-faced breeds, and pets with underlying health conditions may be more sensitive to rising temperatures.

🐱 Helping Indoor Cats Stay Comfortable

Fresh water, cool resting spaces, and enrichment can help cats stay happy and healthy during warmer months.

Wildlife Awareness: Coyote Activity in Regional Parks

As warmer weather brings more visitors outdoors, local wildlife—including coyotes—may be seen more frequently in our regional parks and open spaces. Coyotes are a native species in California and generally avoid human contact. However, during pup-rearing season (March–August), they may be more protective of their territory.

For pet safety, it’s especially important to keep dogs on leash, stay aware of your surroundings, and avoid areas with dense brush where wildlife may be less visible.

If you’re planning outdoor adventures with your pet this season, we encourage you to review simple safety tips for coexisting with wildlife and reducing risk during encounters.
