In June, 17 pets found their forever homes and 52 pets were transferred to adoption-guaranteed partners through our Highway to Home program. Our thanks to those who welcomed these amazing pets into their hearts and homes and contributed to our 96% live-release rate. Above are just a few of the pets whose lives have been changed this month through adoption and our rescue partners.
Are you ready to meet your match? Visit GMHS on the web to view all the homeless pets searching for a forever family and submit your adoption questionnaire electronically. Once approved, a member of our Adoption Team will schedule a time for you to make your very own heart connection!

June 2022 Shelter Snapshot
The generous support of staff, volunteers, and donors enables GMHS to provide daily care, cover special medical needs, foster animals in homes as needed, and arrange transportation to adoption-guaranteed partners. We are also committed to education, outreach, and transparency. Our annual statistics are available on our website, and we also offer you a monthly snapshot.
In early June, feline panleukopenia (FP) was diagnosed among stray kittens received by GMHS. FP is a highly contagious viral disease caused by feline parvovirus to which kittens are especially vulnerable. The GMHS team worked diligently to provide supportive care to those diagnosed with FP, and sadly, 3 kittens were euthanized when all care options had been exhausted and to alleviate their suffering.
To prevent the spread of FP and protect the health of visitors' pets, GMHS paused adoptions for an ~three-week period. The impact of this closure is reflected in June's adoption and transfer out numbers.
You, our friends and supporters, will be heartened to know there are no cases of FP among our shelter population and adoptions and transports have resumed. With great hope, we look forward to the month of July and increasing the number of lives we are able to touch through our special brand of life-saving programs and services.
