Join Us In Celebrating June 2021 Heart Connections!
June was a super month for the homeless pets of our community: A total of 41 pets were adopted, and 105 pets were transferred through our Highway to Home program. Thank you to all of the adopters who chose to welcome a (now formerly) homeless pet into their heart and home!

GMHS to Welcome Walk-In Visitors July 1

It's the news we have all been waiting for!

Here is what will be changing on July 1 and what it means for you:

  • Per the governor's lifting of the mask mandate, masking will no longer be required for those who are fully vaccinated. However, if you feel more comfortable masking, you are certainly welcome to do so.
  • Please continue to be mindful and respectful of each others' space.

  • No appointments are required to visit! This means you can stop by anytime during business hours, which are Monday and Wednesday from 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM, Thursday to Saturday 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM, and Sunday 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM. We will remain closed on Tuesday.
  • Guests will be allowed to walk through the kennel and cat mall.
  • If you are considering adoption, submit an adoption questionnaire prior to your visit. This will allow our adoption team to contact your veterinarian for records and/or your landlord for permission, as well as discovering the personality and pet that will be best suited for your family. We will continue to conduct adoptions by appointment. This ensures prospective adopters have the benefit of uninterrupted time with our team members and pets during meet and greet appointments.
June 2021 Shelter Snapshot

The generous support of staff, volunteers, and donors enables GMHS to provide daily care, cover special medical needs, foster animals in homes as needed, and arrange transportation to adoption-guaranteed partners. We are also committed to education, outreach, and transparency. Our annual statistics are available on our website, and we also offer you a monthly snapshot.
Kitten Fosters Needed

Critical to GMHS' ability to save these tiny lives is growing the ranks of our kitten foster volunteers. From bottle babies to those who are several weeks old, kittens reared in a home grow healthy and strong before adoption or transfer to one of our adoption-guaranteed partners.

All foster volunteers receive training and necessary supplies. If you would like to join our foster team and be a super hero for our community's kittens, please email rescue@gmhumanesociety.org.
On June 1, we asked our friends to donate canned dog food as our supplies were running low. Our community gave big! Thank you to the many who sent donations using our Amazon and Chewy wish lists and dropped by with donations. Thank you for your friendship and support. We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with our community to save even more lives!
Alex Mayes donated dog food and treats to GMHS. We are grateful to Alex for his life-saving friendship!
Nick Yarkey stopped by GMHS with 200 cans of dog food! Thank you for sharing your heart for homeless pets.
The National Honor Society of Gloucester High School collected pet supplies for the homeless pets of GMHS. Several of their officers came by this month with the donations. Thank you for partnering with us!
Summer Pet Safety

Lighting off fireworks is a popular hobby in the summer months, but it’s also a common source of fear, anxiety, and stress for dogs, cats, and equines. Luckily, there are a number of things pet owners can do to help their furry loved ones feel more comfortable—and lower the risk of them getting injured or lost.
Kelly is a 10-year-old with plenty of love to still give her new family. One word to describe Kelly is affectionate. She is an absolute sweetheart! Kelly is diabetic and looking for a family who can give her insulin and monitor her glucose. Kelly's health is stable, and she enjoys her high-protein wet food. Kelly gets along with other cats and would love to meet her match!
