"Hands that Nourish" Results & Gratitude

In May, we passed along the boarding home cooks' humble request for higher wages and better working conditions. These cooks work grueling hours under difficult conditions to provide fresh, nutritious, and culturally appropriate meals for our students.

The goal was to raise $50,000 to improve the cooks' working conditions and to have 50 people increase their current monthly gifts and/or sign up as new Sustaining Neighbors to pay the cooks what they deserve.

You were clearly touched by the cooks' dedication, service, and love for the students, and we were overwhelmed by your generosity.

You gave $79,085 to support the cooks, exceeding our $50,000 goal! Your gifts will tangibly improve lives. That's the power of community.

We are deeply grateful that you're sharing God's love with these dedicated cooks and investing in their critical work. Thank you.

10th and 12th Grade Exam Results are in

89% of sponsored 10th grade students and 97% of sponsored 12th grade students at our partner's boarding homes in India have passed their state board exams.

10th grade students who passed are able to advance to 11th grade, and 12th grade students are able to finish their secondary school education and are now qualified to attend college.

Students who didn't pass can retake their exams with the hope of earning passing scores.

Your prayers, letters, and monthly sponsorship made these impressive results possible.

News from Tanzania

After Nearly 2 years, Eripoto is Close to Completing New Expansion!

Eripoto for Girls & Women runs a safe house for survivors of forced early marriage and pregnancy in Tanzania. While expansion is a huge undertaking, founder Esuvat and the board of directors are committed to helping even more survivors up to 116! More bedrooms mean more housing for girls who have nowhere safe to go, so they can stay in school and work toward brighter futures.

Thanks to a generous gift from an LPGM family, the expansion began in October 2024, and now, after two years of construction, is nearly complete.

According to Esuvat, "The rooms now have windows and tiles installed, making them ready for use. The space has become safe, comfortable, and welcoming for the girls. Next week, there will be a prayer as they prepare to move in."

Literacy Program Expands to Five Learning Centers

Since launching the literacy program in 2024, our partner, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in C.A.R., has tried to organize two sessions per year, but timing is dependent on available resources and local factors. The third session of the program began in early March with student recruitment, instructor training, and supply preparation.

The instructors recruited students for the existing centers, as well as for two new literacy centers in Baboua. One of the two new literacy centers is located at a theological school, so the instructors recruited the wives of male theological students, as well as other women and girls in the area who expressed interest.

Empowering instructors is as important as empowering new student learners, as four of the five instructors of the current session are women.

The Immorality of Third-Country Deportations

A Personal Reflection by the Rev. Dan Ruth

In recent weeks, news outlets have reported that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has deported refugees and migrants seeking asylum from places like Iran, Türkiye, and Afghanistan. But because these migrants would likely face persecution or harm in their home countries, the U.S. Administration is using a “legal loophole” and deporting them to various countries in Africa instead.

On Friday, June 12, a flight landed in the capital city of the Central African Republic (C.A.R.), Bangui, carrying at least two dozen of these migrants. Among them are women who may be exposed to even greater risk to their safety and security.
