ART EXHIBIT with Anna Ozolins
The Jacob Edwards Library is pleased to feature the work of
Anna Ozolins during the month of June.
The Little Gallery In The Woods is the home of Anna Ozolins’ unique water color designs. Anna is a painter and works in watercolor and more recently has been working in acrylic, as well. She offers classes in person and remotely to a wide audience of students interested in fine art.
Artist Statement: “How do I explain the freedom of line, color or (Paint what I See) only in my mind. IT'S my DEFINATIVE signature of Anna M Ozolins”
Anna M. Ozolins, was born in Hells Kitchen, New York, where excitement and drama were a way of life. She loved every minute of it. Yet she made the transition in later years, to move with her family to West Norwood, New Jersey where the woods were her only friend; where this shy quiet person was slowly emerging into her own. Good fortune brought her to the corporate world where her business skills were honed. Today Anna has returned to the natural environment, a place where color and silence were her choices to continue her life as an artist. Anna lives along the shores of Lake Sherman, Brimfield, MA with her husband Maris and their King Charles Cavalier dogs.

Oakes and Smith (online) concert
Thursday, June 10th at 6:30 pm
|
The Jacob Edwards Library presents an online concert with folk duo Oakes and Smith.
Free and open to the public via Zoom.
As part of its robust series of arts and cultural offerings, the Jacob Edwards Library is pleased to host folk duo Oakes & Smith for an evening of original and traditional songs. This event is supported in part by a grant from the Southbridge Cultural Council, a local agency, which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency, with additional support from The Friends of the Jacob Edwards Library. For more information, call 508-764-5426, visit jacobedwardslibrary.org or send email to roberteoakes@gmail.com.
Berkshire-based husband-and-wife folk duo Oakes & Smith creates an ethereal sound not often heard in today’s popular music. The couple evokes a soulful sense of wonder, expressing themes of love, creativity, mystery, and an appreciation of natural beauty. Said Kylee Colvin of The Levity Ball, “Oakes & Smith…bring a sense of calm an ease to the air...with songs so full of wisdom and true emotions.” Their latest release, Between the Earth and the Sky, was mixed by Grammy-winning engineer Oz Fritz and features a performance by celebrated Yes vocalist Jon Anderson. The EP was on high rotation on Soul Traveler Radio, and critics have given it warm praise. Said Cody Conard of The Big Takeover magazine, “The duo’s chemistry is well and clearly still in place, arguably more than ever before, because (this) is one of their best releases yet.” And Anthony Avina of On Request magazine called it “emotional, heartfelt music that touches the soul.” Annie Rew Shaw of Echoes and Dust said, “Katherine’s vocals are so pure and clear, they almost crystallize in your head. Her voice...holds deep emotion and wisdom.” For more information about Oakes & Smith, visit www.oakesandsmith.net.
Sponsored by Southbridge Cultural Council and Mass Cultural Council.

World Wide Knit In Public Day
Saturday, June 12th 10 am to 2 pm
at the Southbridge Common
|
On Saturday June 12 from 10am to 2 pm, local knitters will celebrate World Wide Knit in Public Day at the Southbridge Common on Mechanic St in Southbridge. Organized by the Knitting With Sonya group, sponsored by the Jacob Edwards Library, knitters (and crocheters) can gather together in the gazebo, masked and socially distanced. This day has been celebrated since 2005, and the Library group has been part of it for several years. Anyone can participate- just come to the Common with a chair, mask and your needlework. The town has granted a permit and the public bathrooms at Southbridge Police Station will be available. There is no fee for this event.
World Wide Knit in Public Day was started in 2005 by Danielle Landes and takes place on the second Saturday of June each year. It began as a way for knitters to come together and enjoy each other's company. Knit in Public Day is the largest knitter run event in the world. Each local event is put together by a volunteer or a group of volunteers. They bring their own fresh ideas into planning where the event should be held, and what people would like to do.
In the past some people have used this event as a means to show the general public how diverse those who knit are. Knit in Public Day is about showing the general public that knitting can be a community activity in a very distinct way. In some places there are many different knitting groups that never interact with each other, except on Knit in Public Day when they come together in one place, making them hard to miss. Over the years there have been local events in Australia, China, England, Finland, France, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Slovenia, South Africa, Sweden, United States, and Germany.
