Here are some words of hope for you when making decisions this year. God will help you make good decisions, but you have to ask. “If any of you lack wisdom, you should ask God, and it will be given to you” James 1:5. "A man is foolish to trust himself. But those who use God’s wisdom are safe." Proverbs 28:26.

Pray, look around, and ask other people for advice. Henry Ford was asked: What is he secret of success? Making wise decisions. How do you make wise decisions? From Experience. How do you get experience? Bad Decisions. We actually can avoid bad decisions by asking for advice. We don’t have time to make all the same mistakes over and over again.

Calculate the cost. Don’t begin until you count the cost, Luke 14:28. 

Face your fears. If you wait for perfect conditions, you’ll never get anything done. Ecc. 11:4. There will never be a perfect time to do what God wants you to do.

Trust in the Lord. He will give you strength and wisdom.

Reaching Japanese People in California

Our PCN church planting couple, Dede (Hideyoshi) and Haruka Kashiwagura, are reaching the Japanese community in two locations: Oceanside and La Jolla. They are holding Bible studies in their home, and the fact that most of the participants are non-Christians is unthinkable in Japan, making this a truly remarkable mission field. The Kashiwaguras also hold free Christian English conversation classes in their home, led by former missionary Phil Waters, and provide childcare services for each session. They anticipate that the number of participants will continue to grow. Please join us in praying for the salvation of souls through San Diego Nikkei Christian Church.

Short-term Missions in Hong Kong

A short-term mission team from the U.S. visited Hong Kong before Easter. On April 12, the “Stations of the Cross” outreach event was held with Hong Kong church members under the cover of a bridge, due to unstable weather. Passers-by were invited to listen to scripture passages at each station and watch actors portray the scenes. Thanks be to God, several young people expressed interest in getting to know Jesus more after attending the event. On May 16, we held an online meeting for short-term mission team leaders from CBHK churches. They have experience in leading teams to Macau, Taiwan, the Philippines, and Japan. It’s a great time to connect with each other and offer support for the challenges of planning a trip abroad.

Leaders Being Trained in Nicaragua

In Nicaragua and Latin America, the number of disciples is increasing. Pastor Rigo Reyes and his wife, Claudia, recently visited Pastor Elmer and his wife, Rebeca, in Nicaragua. Rigo was amazed to realize he had been teaching classes to Rebeca since 1998, and now she and Elmer are also training leaders and continuing their studies. Carlos is one of the first three disciples who began studying with Rigo in 2000. Today, he serves as the president of the Association of Nicaraguan Pastors and continues to teach and develop his own network of disciples. It is a great joy to see new generations continue the vision. During the trip, Rigo taught 18 classes and established 5 new groups of independent leaders, who are now leading more than 60 churches. Please pray for the pastors and churches in Nicaragua as they continue to grow.

Biblical Training in El Salvador

Pastor Yonatán Juárez is meeting with 10 pastors and leaders every Tuesday night in western El Salvador. Together they are studying a book on expository preaching because they are convinced that God’s Word is the primary resource for the followers of Jesus to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ. (2 Peter 3:18).  

In another area of ministry, Pastor Juárez has written and printed material for lay people to learn the basic truths of Scripture. With the help of two other pastors, he is currently meeting with a group in the study of Acts in the western city of Chalchuapa, El Salvador. These people are new believers or have come out of churches that emphasized emotions to live the Christian life rather than the principles and promises of Scripture. God continues to build His church in El Salvador!

Myanmar Earthquake Update

On 28 March 2025 at 12:50 PM, a powerful earthquake struck Myanmar, impacting the Sagaing Region, Mandalay Region, Magway Region, and Southern Shan State. It was the strongest earthquake ever recorded in the country’s history. The disaster caused widespread devastation. Thousands of homes collapsed or were severely damaged. Official reports confirm that up to 5,352 people lost their lives, while approximately 11,404 were injured. Hundreds more remain missing. Tragically, the earthquake struck during Friday prayer hours, leading to the collapse of several mosques and the loss of hundreds of Muslim worshippers. Additionally, more than 8,300 monasteries, nunneries, and pagodas were destroyed, along with 16 Christian church buildings.

Ongoing conflict in Myanmar has severely hampered rescue and relief efforts. Access for humanitarian teams remains highly restricted, making it extremely difficult to provide timely aid or assess the full scale of the damage. As a result, recovery in many affected areas remains uncertain.

In response to this crisis, we at Myanmar Venture formed the Helping Hands Team. As the Lord provides relief funds, we have been actively conducting relief work, bringing aid and hope to earthquake-affected communities. We remain committed to supporting the victims as much as we can during this time of immense hardship.

We traveled to Inle Lake in Shan State to carry out humanitarian aid work. It took us about 1.5 hours by boat to reach the affected communities (see video below). We were able to distribute aid to 110 households. Many people in the area are still in need of help. Our team provided mosquito nets, solar lights, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and cash assistance to the victims. On Sunday, we joined the worship service at a missionary's church, where we shared the Word of God. After the service, we enjoyed a time of fellowship with his family. While in the Inle Lake area, two of our team members also had the opportunity to share a short presentation of the Gospel in two different locations. Additionally, we provided sacks of rice to those affected in Sagaing City. We also helped to repair and rebuild the church building in Mandalay city.
