2023 Golf Scramble Recap

This past Friday, June 16th, Wendell Foster held its annual Golf Scramble, presented by Old National Bank. This year’s scramble raised over $50,000, a record-breaking total for this event!

Golfers enjoyed a wonderful day on the course full of sunshine, yummy food, and, most importantly, meeting Wendell Foster care recipients – the reason for it all!

Wendell Foster residents and Aktion Club members spent the day at Ben Hawes Golf Course keeping golfers hydrated with refreshing Arnold Palmers and ice-cold Strawberry Daquiri and Margarita flavored ICEEs! 🍹

We could never thank our community enough for their ongoing support and for making this event possible. All of our sponsors, donors, volunteers, family, and friends are truly Difference Makers in the lives of those we serve!

We just know next year will be even PUTTER! 🏌️‍♂️

Whitesville Lions Club Pie Auction Results

Wendell Foster was blessed to receive $6,000 in proceeds from the Whitesville Lions Club Pie Auction & Chili Supper that took place on April 21st! 🥧 Wendell Foster CEO Doug Hoyt was presented with a check by Lion President Lewis Jean at the Club's May 15th meeting.

We love partnering with the Lions Club each year on this event, and we are so grateful for their support of our organization! Thank you to the Whitesville Lions Club for allowing us to fulfill our mission of empowering people with disabilities. 💙 We can't wait for next year's event!

Wendell Foster Partners with CYP for First Responders BBQ

Wendell Foster is excited to announce that we will be partnering with CYP (Chamber Young Professionals), to host our annual First Responders BBQ this year! As always, we are looking forward to spending the day with our first responders and thanking them for their service. They do so much for us throughout our community and we are happy to offer this token of appreciation. We are thrilled that CYP will be joining us in our efforts this year!

CYP is an organization of young adults in the Owensboro area that focus on creating connections, educating themselves on the community and its organizations, and working to provide solutions to important issues in the Greater Owensboro area. By partnering with Wendell Foster at the First Responders BBQ, members will have the opportunity to interact with our clients, residents, and local first responders. CYP members are excited to have conversations with our first responders who know firsthand what issues need to be addressed throughout the community!

Owensboro/Daviess County First Responders are invited to join us for the First Responders BBQ on July 20th at Wendell Foster's Sensory Park!

Walk of Honor with Aktion Club

Wendell Foster's Aktion Club, sponsored by Kiwanis Club of Owensboro, helped to install flags around the Courthouse for this year's Walk of Honor! Approximately 100 flags were installed in honor of members of the community. This beautiful display will remain in place through July 4th. Aktion Club members have so much fun helping with this project and look forward to it each year.

Thank you, Aktion Club, for serving our community! ❤️🤍💙

Day Training's Day of Play ☀️

To kick off the start of the summer season, Wendell Foster's Day Training Program hosted their Day of Play on May 26th! Participants enjoyed tug-of-war, cornhole, face painting, bowling, karaoke, board games, and more. Plus, a little arm wrestling from Butch! 💪Jonathan Hawthorne, Director of Community Supports at Wendell Foster, said the Day of Play was a fantastic way for Day Training participants to enjoy the beautiful weather while spending time with one another. "Summertime is twice as fun when you can spend it outdoors and under the sun, with friends who bring their own rays of sunshine to everyone's life!" Jonathan said. It was the perfect Day of Play! 😄

The tug-of-war game between staff and participants was extremely intense!

Meet Our Newest Steps Ambassador! 🌟

If you read the March edition of our newsletter, you'll remember that we introduced a new division to the Wendell Foster Half Marathon & 5K: the Steps Division, a new and exciting way for people with disabilities to complete a half marathon or 5K. Participants in our Steps Division will have the opportunity to complete either distance over the course of a year. Participants will take their final steps across the finish line on race day, March 23rd, 2024!

We are excited to welcome a new Steps Division Ambassador who will chronicle her journey leading up to race day! Meet Jenny! 🌟 Jenny is very outgoing and independent. She loves the outdoors! If the sun is shining, you’ll probably find her outside. Jenny loves music, dancing, socializing with friends, and being the center of attention.

Jenny says she will blow this goal out of the water. Earlier this month, Jenny told us she had already completed 26,000 steps! That deserves a huge congratulations! 🎊 Jenny isn’t stopping there; she will start a new countdown calendar this week. We can’t wait to see how many steps she takes on her journey to race day.

Registration is now open for our Steps Division. Click here to learn more about the Steps Division, and sign up today! 👣
