Keeping Up with Christiana!

Greetings!
Welcome to our June Newsletter! This month, we celebrate and recognize LGBTQ+ Pride Month here in Howard County. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots in New York City, when LGBTQ+ activists led by Sylvia Rivera and Marsha P. Johnson fought back after a police raid at the Stonewall Inn. The demonstrations and activism that followed marked the beginning of the modern LGBTQ+ liberation movement in the United States.
We are also recognizing Pride Month in a special way as Howard County holds its
first
Pride Festival
in County history. The Festival will be held on Saturday, June 29th, from 11am-5pm at Centennial Park. The Festival is a free, family-friendly event that will include food, music, games, entertainment, and community resources. I hope to see you there!

Yours in service,

The County Council voted on its May legislation on Monday, June 3.
I was proud to pass several bills this month with my colleagues on the County Council, including legislation authorizing the use of stop-arm cameras on all Howard County school buses
(CB18-2019)
and legislation extending the 2018 Watershed Safety Act as we continue to review flood mitigation efforts for Ellicott City
(CB20-2019)

Approving this budget was not an easy process – it required many thoughtful discussions grounded in data. But despite the differences of opinion, we all want the best for our children, our families, and our community. You can find my full thoughts on the FY20 Budget
