AMPATH Global Nursing Conference 2024

In May, the CGN team had the privilege of attending the 2024 AMPATH Global Nursing Scientific Conference in Kenya. Our team was so inspired by all the hard work and innovative research that nurses are conducting globally!
Our director, Rebecca Silvers, was invited to speak at the pre-conference focused on developing Advanced Practice Nursing in Kenya.
Our CGN members Scout Hebnick and Mairead Shaw presented at the main conference with their Kenyan colleagues. They shared the product of their year's collaborative work in our AMPATH mentorship program. A big congratulations to Scout, Mairead, and their partners!

UCSF Nurses make a difference for their patients every day.
To honor the theme for Nurses Week 2024: Nurses Make the Difference, the Nursing Grand Rounds highlighted nurses who make a difference in their communities through volunteer service at home, nationwide, and abroad. Our director, Rebecca Silvers, had the honor of presenting this year about nurses' impact on global health with a diverse panel of nurses across UCSF, including CGN member Erin Carrera, who shared their experience in the community locally and globally.

GICS Wound Care Survey
Pediatric Wound Care Survey
The following survey is an attempt to find out how best nurses care for Pediatric Acute and Chronic Surgical Wounds in your countries. This survey is designed to collect evidence from nurses about wound care.
This survey is brief and should only take about 5-10 minutes to complete.
The results of this survey will be used to create evidence-based guidelines and recommendations that can be used by nurses around the world to improve wound care for children.
Your input is essential in making this happen, and I hope you will take the time to participate.
Your responses will be kept anonymous, and your participation is completely voluntary.
The results of this survey will be published on the website of the Global Initiative for Children's Surgery (GICS) and the International Society of Pediatric Wound Care (ISPWC). By participating in this survey, you will be helping to improve wound care for children everywhere.
Your contribution is greatly appreciated.

2024 CGN Cultural Humility Course
Registration is now open!
We received great feedback from last year's participants and are excited to continue to offer our 3-hour introductory course on cultural humility for all UCSF nurses, APPs, and faculty. Cultural humility is the cornerstone of all global health work and our expertise on this topic is essential to optimize equitable partnerships and cross-cultural collaborations.
Our own UCSF nursing/APP faculty and staff are facilitating the course. Looking forward to seeing you there!
There is no cost for the course at this time. 3 CEUs will be provided.
Time: 9 am - 12 pm

Assistant Clinical Professor, UCSF School of Nursing
I have a broad interest and passion for global health and have been fortunate to work with four different NGOs in Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East, as well as resource-challenged areas closer to home. I completed my family practice residency in the Bureau of Indian Affairs and returned to the Navajo Nation during the COVID-19 pandemic. I have a B.A. in International Studies from the Jackson School of International Studies and a B.S.N. both from the University of Washington, my M.S. in Family Nurse Practice with minors in Nursing Education and Healthcare Policy from UCSF, and my post-masters AGACNP from the University of Pennsylvania.
I am blessed to work with Dr. Rebecca Silvers on curriculum development and facilitating the Cultural Humility course for the UCSF Nursing Global Health Institute as I complete my Doctor of Nursing Practice at the UCSF School of Nursing where I work as an Assistant Clinical Professor.

Masters of Science in Global Health
Part-time Track

The Institute for Global Health Sciences is pleased to introduce a new part-time track for their MS in Global Health Sciences program!
This two-year, in-person program is great for those looking to advance their career in global health. Whether you want to keep working while earning a degree, or simply want two years to complete a master’s program, this program could be ideal for you.
*UCSF employees receive a 20% discount on tuition.
The deadline to apply is July 15.

The Roving Community Health Initiative
Community Opportunity
|
|
The Roving Community Health Initiative is a team of UCSF clinicians (RN, NP, PA) who work alongside community organizations and volunteers to provide vaccinations, wound care, and harm reduction in San Francisco, primarily in the Tenderloin and South of Market. Most of the work is on "roving teams" serving our unhoused and marginally housed community members.
Shifts are paid but voluntary and on top of your regular position at UCSF. RCHI covers your time (including OT when applicable), so your home department is not charged.
You need manager approval to pick up shifts, and shifts should be fine with your home department schedule.
Regular opportunities are:
- Thursday and Saturday
- 11 am to 4:30 pm (5 hours paid after 30-minute break deducted)
The first hour of each shift includes prep and orientation for newcomers. Clinicians go out in pairs to work together and support each other. Newcomers are paired with somebody with experience.
