Congratulations to the Undergraduate Research Scholars Program Class of 2023!

The Sustainable LA Grand Challenge is proud to acknowledge the work of the 49 students (including 8 project leaders) who have made it to the end of their Undergraduate Research Scholars Program academic journey for 2022-23! Students met the last two weeks to present group projects on a wide range of topics — helped along by their mentors from: Friends of Ballona Wetlands, National Park Service: Santa Monica Mountains Recreation Area, Seabin Project, SLATE-Z (South Los Angeles Transit Empowerment Zone), UCLA Counterforce Lab, UCLA Sustainability and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Thank you to our community partners and the faculty mentors who have helped make this another successful year. We can't wait to see what these future sustainability leaders of tomorrow do in the future!

TRACtion forges ahead as working groups finish initial convenings

We are happy to report that an important milestone was reached in the TRACtion Transportation cycle. Last month, the five Working Groups — comprising UCLA faculty and community and advocacy leaders — convened for their final working group meetings. It was inspiring to have guest speaker Dr. Mimi Sheller, an innovator in mobility justice, present for a lively discussion.

As TRACtion moves forward, be on the lookout for a working group synthesis report — summarizing the outcomes from those spring discussions — and further engagement with other sectors as we work toward a roadmap to more equitable and sustainable transportation in Los Angeles.
