Men's Health Month
  • June kicks off #MensHealthMonth to bring awareness to the challenges men face in life to build a stronger tomorrow. Men on average have shorter life spans than women, while women are more likely to visit their doctor regularly.

  • Do the men in your life have someone to talk to? 30% of men experience depression, yet only 1 in 4 actually talk about it.

  • Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men in the United States, accounting for 1 in every 4 male deaths. Check out some Heart Health Tips for Men from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

AHN in the News!
AHN's Director of Aging Services, Ivan Espinoza, appeared on KTVN Channel 2's "Ask the Doctor" segment to discuss the free services for seniors we provide through the State Health Insurance Program, Aging and Disability Resource Center, and Senior Medicare Patrol. Learn more about these services here.
June is #PRIDEMONTH
The month of June was chosen for LGBTQ Pride Month to commemorate the Stonewall riots, which occurred at the end of June 1969.  As a result, many pride events are held during this month to recognize the impact LGBTQ people have had in the world.

Access to Healthcare Network is an organization that reflects and honors our diverse community here in Nevada. We are driven by the shared experiences of individuals and strive to build a better tomorrow. We salute diversity, practice inclusion, and demand equality for all.

Meet Our Board - Michelle Kling
Michelle has been involved with AHN since inception and was one of the original board members that helped get the organization started.

Michelle got involved with AHN because of the need of the uninsured and underinsured to receive healthcare in a very complex and challenging health care system. Michelle says, "I strongly believe in the values of the organization and respect the client's willingness to participate in paying for their health care. Paying what they can afford not only demonstrates the client's value of what we provide but gives them the self-respect gained from participating in their healthcare."

Michelle is a Registered Nurse and has worked in the field of public health for over 35 years. She retired from the District Health Department after 25 years and has worked in other areas of public health for the past 11 years.

National Healthcare News
Millennials’ Overall Health is Declining
According to a report published by Blue Cross Blue Shield, millennials reported worse health outcomes in comparison to generation X. Prevalence of major depression increased among millennials by 31 percent. Millennials also had a higher prevalence of 8 of the top 10 conditions compared to generation X people of the same age.
New Artificial Intelligence May Become More Accurate Than Radiologists
In a study done by software engineers at Google, artificial intelligence was able to read 6,716 lung CT scans with 94% accuracy as opposed to the current standing 30% rate of false negatives from chest CT scans. This positive achievement shows great promise, although it may not be ready to be implemented quite yet. AI software grows more intelligent the more data it takes in, and computers may be able to recognize subtle changes in a CT scan that human doctors cannot. AI still can make errors however, and the use of AI in the medical field raises concerns of cybersecurity and widespread misinformation that could potentially be spread from one single source.
