Platte County Federated Women's Democratic Club
On June 14th, the Women’s Club held it’s first in person meeting at the Platte County Resource Center since the beginning of the pandemic. It was a celebration of being together. Officers were elected to serve for 2021 to 2023. They are: President – Rita McGuire, 1st Vice President – Alice Wadsworth, 2nd Vice-President – Sharen Hunt, Secretary – Elizabeth Murtagh-Yaw, and Treasurer – Tracy Holthaus. The new officers will be sworn in at the July 12 meeting. Members were asked to sign up for three new committees: membership committee, program committee and bylaws updating committee.

There was a brief discussion of possible fund raising ideas: a penny collection to start at our next meeting, a used book sale and the possibility of partnering with issue oriented groups whose goals and values we support.
Platte Country Democratic Central Committee
The Platte County Democratic Central Committee met on June 17th at the Platte County Resource Center. Guest John DeFoor introduced himself and announced that he is running for Platte County Presiding Commissioner in 2022. He said he had already received encouragement from the AFL-CIO and had started to make calls.

Ken Hunt reported on progress from Missouri Senate District 34. The plan is for the State Party to open an office for Buchannan and Platte Counties. The Governing Committee is searching for office space and candidates for Executive Director of the new office.

Paula Willmarth who was unable to attend the meeting sent a notice about the Fair Maps Missouri Project that is seeking input from communities of interest for the Northland to be part of the redistricting process. The Fair Maps Missouri project is an effort to counter efforts at gerrymandering in the redistricting process that will take place this fall.

A Celebration of Life for our friend and dedicated Democrat Pauli Kendrick was at C-Point in Weatherby Lake on July 1. Her Obituary from the Platte County Landmark can be found at here.
Northland Democratic Club
The Northland Democratic Club met at the ACA Club on June 15. Guest speakers were Ashley Aune, Missouri House Representative, District 14 and Jon Carpenter, Western Commissioner for Clay County.

They provided a legislative update. Ashley said she was pleased to report that a bill she had worked across the aisle to co-sponsor a bill on cybersecurity that was passed into law. Jon Carpenter reported that the Clay County Commission is working to settle lawsuits. He also reported that the proposed Annex is not going to happen and that the Commission is exploring options for getting out of debt.
