SAFE SPORT

All USA Swimming registered clubs will be receiving a pop-up changing tent, courtesy of USA Swimming. The tent is designed to help clubs comply with new requirements under the new MAAPP 2.0 policies. Specifics on MAAPP 2.0 will be forthcoming as soon as they are received from USA Swimming. Compliance of the new MAAPP 2.0 policies will go into effect in September of 2021.
Athlete Protection Training
All athletes age 18 & older must complete USA Swimming's Athlete Protection Training. For more information about completing APT, visit the USA Swimming Athlete Protection Training page.

Safe Sport Training Resources
USA Swimming Safe Sport staff has been hosting Zoom trainings for parents, minor athletes and coaches to assist clubs in completing the Training and Education requirement of the Safe Sport Club Recognition program. November trainings for parents, athletes & coaches are available:

10 Things A Guide Dog Thinks During Swim Practice
McClain Hermes, from the Dynamo Swim Club in Atlanta, has penned a light-hearted look into the daily thoughts of her guide dog Blake. Join Blake as he gives us a perspective of his day with McClain, both in and out of the pool.
South Carolina Swimming is encouraging swimmers age 11-18 to consider participation with the 2021 South Carolina Zone Team in Tupelo, MS July 27-31, 2021. These swimmers will participate alongside our Age Group Zone Team at the Southern Zone Championships. As their events are run and scored separately during the meet, this presents a great opportunity for our disability swimmers to achieve recognition for their accomplishments.

If you have any swimmers who might be interested, please encourage them to look over the information below.


Para Swimming at the zone level is broken into three separate groups, each with their own set of Qualifying Times.


P1: Non-Ambulatory (wheelchair bound) - Limited Use of Extremities
P2: Dwarfism, multiple limb deficiencies, ambulatory with assistance, can be wheelchair bound with high functioning upper body.
P3: Single limb deficiencies, visual impairments, intellectual impairments, ambulatory without significant assistance.

UPDATED COVID-19 MEET POLICIES

A Message from Technical Planning Chairs

The Technical Planning committee met last night to discuss updating COVID-19 protocols for sanctioned meets this summer. After consultation with the Officials Committee, Senior Committee, and Coaches Committee, starting June 1 and lasting through the remaining long course season, the COVID-19 protocol for all LSC meets will read:

“All COVID-19 protocols required by facilities and local governments will be followed. Masks are still encouraged as a preventive measure as given by CDC guidelines.”

This now means that mask requirements are dictated by the facilities at which a given meet is held. Teams are responsible for implementing and enforcing any protocols required by that facility (and any local ordinances where the pool is located.)

This simple language can replace the vast majority of the language that has been required during the short course season. Teams only need to include after the LSC policy any protocol requirements of the facility at which the meet is being held. Any team that has already had a meet sanctioned in June can simply email the Technical Planning chair to ask for a revision of their meet info to be in compliance with this updated language. It will be incumbent on all teams asking for this meet info revision to inform other teams attending their meet(s) that the LSC COVID protocols have changed so that teams and individuals can make informed decisions on whether they want to attend.

Please note that this COVID protocol change does NOT affect the capacity limits required by a given facility nor does it affect the attendance of spectators at a LSC meet. The LSC policy through the remainder of the long course season is no spectators at indoor meets.

Any further revisions to the LSC policies on COVID protocols and spectators will be reviewed before the beginning of the short course season in September.
National Certification Request

If you would like a National Evaluation at either meet please fill out the request form and return to officials chair Aimee McMillan. Evaluations haven't been offered in over 18 months. The number of evaluations are limited, so please get in your requests as soon as possible.
Application To Officiate Long Course Championships

This July, South Carolina Swimming will be hosting the inaugural Long Course Age Group Championships and Long Course Senior Championships at the North Charleston Aquatic Center.

Everyone who plans to attend the meet(s) is encouraged to reserve your hotel room AND apply to work the meet. 

Although COVID restrictions have loosened up considerably since February we will still be limited on numbers. If you wish to work either meet you will need to apply to work. 

Selections will be made once there are enough officials to fill all of the positions. 

Selections will be posted by Thursday before the meet.

For the Short Course Championship meets, officials that had swimmers in the meet were initially selected. 

For the summer championship meets, officials will be selected by experience and dedication to the sport for this summer. It is the officials' chair's responsibility to the athletes to give them the best officiating crew that can be put together. 

South Carolina Swimming will be ordering two shirts for everyone selected by June 25. If you apply after June 25 and are selected it will be only for prelims and you will not receive a shirt.

CLUB RESOURCES
Dolphin Timing System Waiver
USA Swimming has issued a waiver for the Dolphin Timing System in its semi-automatic mode (electronic start/manual stop) through August 31, 2021. 
 
The Manual Synchronized Start/Manual Stop is not approved as a semi-automatic system, but the manual start/stop is considered similar to traditional stopwatches and is acceptable for that use.  Please see the USA Swimming waiver found here.
