PURA VIDA IN COSTA RICA WITH CONTIKI
BY NICHOLAS ROGERS
I traveled to Costa Rica on a 9-day Contiki tour. I saw everything from bustling downtowns, to remote jungles, protected green turtle nesting sites to party beaches, and all the rivers, waterfalls, and volcanoes in between. Costa Rica is a diverse country with a little something to offer everyone.
Contiki is a company that specializes in catering to young travelers age 18 to 35 and was recommended to me by a coworker. I was part of a 29-person group of travelers from all around the world and getting the chance to interact with a young, diverse group of people and experience a new destination together is one of the best parts about traveling with Contiki.
Every Contiki tour is also lead by an experienced trip manager who specializes in the destination and makes sure everyone is taken care of. While some of our group were traveling with friends, many of us were solo, myself included, and having the trip manager around definitely helped with the nerves of traveling alone to a foreign country.

CRYSTAL SYMPHONY AND THE MAJESTIC MIDNIGHT SUN IN ALASKA
BY KELLY DAILEY
Crystal Cruises delivered an amazing luxurious travel experience to the last frontier – Alaska, the 49th state. The service was impeccable, food was delicious with very beautiful artful presentations and the accommodations were comfortable and well appointed. Overall, it is a great value and a very worthwhile experience!
We boarded the Crystal Symphony in Vancouver after spending the night at the Opus Hotel in Vancouver. The Opus Hotel was a great choice with a great location and easy access from the airport via the train. Our room was well appointed and the staff very courteous. I just wish we had had longer to explore Vancouver. One night was not enough. Vancouver does celebrate Canada Day on July 1 in style with a street fair at Canada Place pier. The hotel provided a shuttle to the Canada Place pier making getting to the ship relaxing and stress free. Boarding the ship was very easy and we were greeted with a glass of champagne and a welcoming smile. Exploring the 848 passenger ship was easy to navigate with the signage at the elevators as well as the provided deck plan. The attention to detail that Crystal delivers is outstanding. Even our key for the cabin was placed in a little crystal pouch that was very convenient to hold a driver’s license, money and credit cards.
The first day is filled with visiting the shore excursion desk, the spa (there is an open house to explore the different spa options) and the mandatory fire drill. If you’ve not previously signed up for one of the specialty restaurants, the first night is a great time to go and enjoy the exquisite cuisine. We dined at Prego and their unconstructed tiramisu makes your mouth water for more.
The wait staff in all the restaurants, especially the Marketplace and Waters make you feel welcomed valued family member with smiles and greetings of hospitality. They not only learn your name at the beginning of the cruise but also your preferences. The food was plentiful and delicious.
Silk delivered delicious food and impeccable service. One can make up to 2 dining reservations at each specialty restaurant prior to boarding the ship. Additional reservations may be made once on board.

Cruising the Tahitian Islands
with Windstar
by Laura Blackburne
If you have never traveled to the South Pacific, you are sorely missing out on some of the most beautiful beaches and landscape your eyes may ever view! The clear turquoise and sapphire waters we’ve all seen in postcards, movies and photos are NOT filtered, these gorgeous islands truly exist. Once you adjust to your heavenly surroundings (and the humidity), I suggest wandering around your ship and familiarizing yourself with the Wind Spirit.
My travel partner and I were about to experience “Dreams of Tahiti” for 7 sun-filled days, visit no less than 6 different islands, and enjoy our cruise with less than 150 other guests. Here’s just a few of the highlights:
Hiking through Moorea
:
We decided to take a tour of this island with an excursion that offers guests a professional photographer guide. Our guide Reno was friendly, informative and had our small group taking pro-shots in no time. We hiked to the top of the Mt. Belvedere Lookout Point, took a 4x4 through Mount Rotui also known as “Magic Mountain”, and meandered through pineapple fields and lush subtropical terrain. I recommend choosing this excursion if you can handle mild hiking and don’t mind the consistently wobbly ride in the 4x4. -They will most certainly enjoy the awe-inspiring panoramic views of this island!
