Birthday Vacation
What a fantastic trip my daughter and I had for my 60th birthday! We visited Venice, Florence, Vatican City, Rome, Athens, and Santorini over nearly three weeks.
The highlight of Venice was our tour of the Murano Glass Factory. We got to blow glass, see incredible works of glass art, and make some purchases

Chloe and I both burst into tears when we got to our lodging at the Villa Olmi in Florence. The view from our room was straight out of a postcard, and the accommodations were lovely. We got pretty comfortable navigating around Florence, although our necks hurt from looking up at all the beautiful buildings,

One of the biggest highlights was our trip into Tuscany on the day of my birthday. We were with a small tour group and visited four remote villages in the hills of Tuscany. We had a wonderful lunch and wine tasting at Palagetto Winery in San Gimignano. Afterward, the tour group took me for drinks at the rooftop bar at the Plaza Lucchesi in Florence – not to be missed!
Rome and Athens were so large; we’re so glad we got to experience the Coliseum, Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, the Acropolis, and the changing of the guards at Parliament in Athens. My main takeaway from Athens? Athena was a major bad***!

We definitely saved the best for last with Santorini – Chloe and I both fell in love with this island’s beauty, food, and people. Can’t say enough good things about our stay at the Aressana Spa Hotel and Suites – be sure to get a spa treatment if you stay there! Also, eat at Argo and have drinks at Aestas.
|
|
I’m still processing how this trip has fundamentally changed me…not to mentioned strengthened my relationship with my adult daughter, who lives 1,000 miles away. One thing I learned about myself: I can do this thing called travel. And I now, officially, have the travel bug. Thank you, Chynell, for helping me to plan a memorable Birthday vacation.

Celebrate Their
25th Wedding Anniversary
in Cuba

On our bucket list was a visit to Cuba, Norwegian Cruise Lines offers a 4-night cruise Port Canaveral with an overnight in Havana. The Norwegian Sun is an all-inclusive onboard experience including unlimited drinks. The cruise departed Monday and returned on Friday, convenient for those of us living in Tallahassee. So off we went.

We decided to take a tour of Havana in a 1952 Ford convrtable. The city is Cuba's capital, is very large and spread out with a population of over 2 million people. Much of the city is in a state of decay and disrepair, aside from a few renovated buildings and major tourist areas.

The district of Old Havana (La Habana Vieja) was founded almost 500 years ago. The centerpiece of the region is the beautiful baroque Plaza de la Cathedral. The exterior is one of the finest examples of Cuban baroque architecture. The cathedral is open 1030a-3p daily, and there is no admission fee. We had a wonderful lunch and went strolling through the city and market.

The day we were in Havana just happen to be our 25th wedding anniversary. That's why I picked this cruise. After dinner, we celebrated our anniversary at the famous Tropicana Show (well worth it). The show will be 80 years old this December. It has over 120 performers , and was outside.
This was a wonderful trip and a wonderful anniversary. Now we can check Cuba off our bucket list.
