Apprenticeship Programs Gain Steam in New Jersey
At an Apprenticeship Forward event this month at the John Heldrich Center for Workforce
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy
Development in New Brunswick, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy announced the Garden state's new Apprenticeship Network. He also announced an upcoming roundtable for apprenticeships with the GACC and NJIT (New Jersey Institute of Technology) to take place next month.

As a former ambassador to Germany, Governor Murphy explained that he experienced first hand the success of the German apprenticeship model and how it contributes to forming the backbone of a stable economy.

The Governor pointed out numerous other workforce initiatives, including NJ Place, which allows apprentices to earn college credits for their training, modeled directly after the German Duale Ausbildung.

Other speakers at the event included new CEO of Siemens USA Barbara Humpton and Siemens Foundation CEO David Etzwiler. Ms. Humpton described Siemens' innovative Mechatronics training program, which is now active in nine states and has created a sustainable pipeline for jobs that only recently came into being.

The GACC manages a network of apprenticeships in 11 states, including New Jersey, connecting employers and giving young people exciting, sustainable career opportunities.

A Taste of Germany!
On behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL), the GACC NY organized a business delegation to the USA earlier this month for German companies from the food sector. The objective of BMEL's foreign trade promotion is to support small and medium-sized enterprises in the German agri-food sector.

As part of this three-day business trip to New York, four companies received comprehensive insights into the US food market through targeted presentations and individual business meetings with potential business partners and experts.

At the beginning of the week, during a morning briefing at the Orthodox Union in NYC, company representatives received valuable information about the US food industry, its legal framework and significant import regulations, key distribution structures  and specific cultural differences.

The tasting event took place on June 4 in the restaurant of the German Consulate General in New York. More than 80 participants attended the event, which offered companies the opportunity to present their products to numerous local players in the food industry and to connect with importers, distributors, buyers and restaurateurs. Over the next two days, the companies were accompanied on meetings with potential US partner companies.

German companies face particular challenges to successful entry into the US market. In addition to existing import regulations, they must navigate the complex distribution structure that, unlike in Germany, involves numerous agenices.
