Dear Friends and Supporters of Saint John's:

As we begin to move forward with reopening our campus, we are taking all precautions necessary keep the women and children and our staff on campus healthy and safe.

Like all of you, we are analyzing and assessing current events and directives on a daily basis, doing our best to listen and to do our part as members of the community, while searching for new and creative ways to keep our doors open to women and children in need. We deeply appreciate the generosity of so many of you who have come to our aid via donations, both monetary and in-kind, during this time. We are so inspired by each and every one of you -- always, but especially right now. We truly couldn't do this without you. THANK YOU!

Below is a summary of the goings-on here at Saint John’s. We are fortunate and thankful to have some great news to share as our families continue to work hard in their journeys toward affecting Real Change, once and for all.

85% of Goal with 46 days to Go!

Together we give. Empower. Love. And help more women and children in need. Right now access to a safe, secure, supportive environment with comprehensive wrap-around services means that families have the availability to stay healthy and safe in the midst of a global health crisis. You make that reality possible! And we can't thank you enough.

Thanks to nearly 1,000 donors, we have raised $386,844 through our Support the Red Door campaign, to help make up for a significant loss in revenue resulting from COVID-19. We are at 85% of our goal to raise $450,000 by July 31! Please help us get there.

We have tentatively rescheduled our Polo for Change event to occur on the afternoon of Sunday, October 11 at the River Ranch Polo Fields in Wilton. Event attendance will be limited, with individual cabanas available for parties of 10 (no individual tickets will be sold). We will employ all social distancing and precautions necessary to provide for the safety of all in attendance. Mark your calendars, and check our website for updates: saintjohnsprogram.org/poloforchange .

Please contact Sasha Wirth or Bethany Knudsen for additional details and sponsorship opportunities available at info@saintjohnsprogram.org.
We are bursting with pride that Plates Café and Catering was chosen as one of 44 providers for Great Plates Delivered , a program implemented by the City of Sacramento and funded by FEMA and the State of California to provide 1100 vulnerable seniors in our community with home-delivered meals during our region’s shelter-in-place directive. Women in the hands-on-employment training phase of the program are preparing three nutritious meals per day, three days per week, for 50 adults 65+ or 60-64 who are at high risk for COVID-19. What a great way for our ladies to learn while giving back to those also in need!
Plates Cafe Opens Outdoor BBQ Takeout Stand at Depot Park

Emoji Club Bids Farewell to CSUS Interns
Saint John’s Childcare staff formed the “Emoji Club” several weeks ago as part of our social-emotional skills program to facilitate open discussions and to encourage our children to talk about their feelings and practice new coping skills (49% of our children arrive suffering from depression and anxiety as a result of their homelessness). Earlier this month, our Emoji Club held a parade as a send-off to our awesome CSUS interns Macie and Taylor. After sheltering in place for so many weeks, the kids were so excited about this event!

NEW BLOG - Rollercoaster

Round and round and round we go. So many of our clients at Saint John’s, women who are trapped in a vicious cycle of addiction, abuse and poverty, women who were raised in families wrought with domestic violence, crime, substance abuse, mental illness and dysfunction, are desperate for a way out. Breaking this cycle is no small feat, one that may be insurmountable for many, but at Saint John’s, women begin to see a way up and out.
A Message to Volunteers

We have missed you! Our day-to-day operations here at Saint John’s have been supported by and reliant on the 450 volunteers who contribute 1650 volunteer hours per month! We have sorely missed you in our kitchen, in our offices, in our donation center and in our Childcare center!

As shelter-in-place restrictions are eased, and as volunteers who are not at high-risk are ready and willing, we will gradually (and carefully!) welcome you back to our campus! To learn more, click the appropriate button below.
