Help Beat the Heat!

Summer is here and so are warmer temperatures. Cold winter nights are often thought to be the most dangerous for our neighbors experiencing homelessness but the long, hot summer days are equally as dangerous due the high risk of dehydration. Anyone may become dehydrated, but the condition is especially dangerous for young children and older adults. Mild to moderate dehydration can be corrected by drinking more fluids, but severe dehydration requires immediate medical treatment.

If you are looking to contribute in a big way, we are currently in need of a new dishwasher at our Day Center.
Families and staff use this dishwater throughout the day to clean plates, pots, pans, sanitize bottles and accessories, and maintain sanitary sharing of kitchen goods.

Your donation would be greatly appreciated from all of us at Family Promise of Morris County.

Marisol's Story

Prior to coming to emergency shelter, Marisol and her children had been through a great deal. The difficulty of losing their home and having spent as much time as they could staying with friends and family left the them feeling displaced and just plain tired. Through their hard work and active participation with Ally Wise, Director of Programs and Services and the social work team at Family Promise of Morris County, they were able to successfully transition to permanent housing in under 12 months. Marisol wrote to use recently...

"Then the happiest day of my life [was when] I was approved for the 3 bedroom apartment. Derek told me we are going make this happen for you and your kids and with your help and his guidance we were able to make it happen. So now I live in in a gorgeous 3 bedroom with my beautiful children and we are very happy and I don't know how to thank you and the agency. If I could be an advocate for Family Promise I would. I couldn't have done it without you and for that I am truly grateful. So thank you from the bottom of my heart for making this dream come true for us."
Keys to Housing Campaign Update
We are excited to report that through the Keys to Housing campaign, we raised enough funding to assist 18 families and individuals to obtain permanent housing!

THIS UNIQUE FAMILY PROMISE OF MORRIS COUNTY PROGRAM implements the strategy of employing licensed social workers to help families and individuals build a sustainable community by addressing housing, child care, job training, employment, financial literacy, physical and mental health, and legal issues. Activities include:

• Gathering/analyzing tenant information
• Organizing and leading housing searches
• Developing/maintaining positive relationships with landlords who own or manage safe, well maintained, affordable housing
• Assisting landlords with expenses related to inspections
• One-time cash and in-kind incentives to landlords upon lease signing
• Providing our Financial Literacy and Good Neighbor training workshops

Though there is still more to be done, we are thrilled to know that the Morris County community supports their neighbors in their time of need!

Woodmont Elementary is a valued partner in this mission and provides opportunities for students to learn through service. For that, we thank you!
Done In A Day!
We are happy to once again partner with Morgan Stanley and Liquid Church in the fight to end homelessness. Both groups of extremely dedicated volunteers are always there to help serve their community. The Liquid Church volunteers spent the day at Abigail House, while the Morgan Stanley volunteers helped us out at our Day Center location. Family Promise is thankful for their participation and constant support in spreading the word of our mutual mission.
