GOD'S WORK. OUR HANDS

CAPS FOR CANCER
All of you who knit, crochet or sew are urged to take up your needles or hooks) and begin making caps again for the cancer patients who lose their hair because of          chemotherapy. We will have a Blessing of the Caps later this year.  The caps will be gifts to the American Cancer Society in Bryan. There are cap patterns on the Heartline Desk  if you feel called to this ministry

HUNGER

Canned and non perishable food donations in June will be donated to Faith Mission. Please help by bringing your canned and non-perishable food items to the food table located in the narthex.

KIDS CAFE
If you would like do more than give money for a good cause...although that's rewarding in its own way...there's an opportunity this summer to feed hungry kids in Brenham. In partnership with the Brazos Valley Food Bank and other local congregations, members of Christ can volunteer to serve lunch to any child who comes for food. The volunteers, working in teams of four, will distribute the meals at the Brenham Housing Authority's new Community Center on Blue Bell Road. Volunteers will work from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Christ Lutheran will have only one    day every two weeks to serve and the program will run between June 12th and August 11th. The food is provided     by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and can only be served to children 18 and younger. A sign-up sheet is on the Heart Line if you would like to make a bunch of children smile this summer!

LUTHERAN WORLD RELIEF
It will be time to begin collecting school supplies for Lutheran World Relief in July.  The stores will begin their sale for school supplies for the new year and this will be a great opportunity for everyone to purchase school supplies for LWR as well.  We will have more information and a reminder in the July newsletter for purchasing school supplies

DAY SCHOOL NEWS

After more than a year of planning and preparing, we are happy to announce that we have successfully completed our re-accreditation through the Evangelical Lutheran Education Association!

Our staff has spent countless hours compiling their professional portfolios under the guidance of Anne Schindehette and Sharon and I completed the five additional manuals covering our Mission & Philosophy, Center Overview,   Physical Environment, Governance & Resources and Curriculum.  The journey culminated with the Visitation Team spending three days with us, observing classrooms, interviewing parents and staff, reading portfolios and vi
day schoo letterhead
siting  with members from our Board, Council, Foundation, CLASS parents, and  our accreditation Steering Committee.

This was a huge undertaking and although being under a microscop e is never comfortable, we recognize the benefits of having an un-biased view of our program and to work even more closely with the many facets that are Christ   Lutheran.  The ELEA Visitation Team members from California, Dallas and New Ulm left very impressed with the strong ties between the School and the Church.

Some benefits that come from this process are; improvement of instruction, a sharpened focus on our ministry, self-evaluation based on ELEA standards, public recognition, increased accountability, development of an                       improvement plan and demonstration of quality as assed by objective educational professionals.

Though there are too many names to recognize individually, I want to thank everyone (and there were many), who had a part in this process.  Our success belongs to you all!

Also, we extend our congratulations to these 2017 Christ Lutheran Day School Pre-K graduates.

Blessings to all,
Ginny Gaskamp
