Dear Friends,
As I write this, I am feeling so grateful for all the artists and volunteers and friends that make the Center for the Arts a lively and welcoming place. Recently, I had a conversation with a member who spent an hour wandering in the gallery. He explained that he simply needed to turn off the television and take his mind off everything else by looking at the beauty in the room. That made me feel so good.
We want to be a feather in the cap of beautiful Galena, and are so delighted to welcome old friends and to make new ones. I love it when members proudly bring in visitors to the area to show them the art or to attend events. We want the arts to be accessible to everyone and all ages. We happily welcomed three school groups in May, who chose the arts as one of the attractions in Galena.
I hope you, too, will visit us regularly.
Looking forward to seeing you!
Carole

A stunning rendition of Effigy Mounds by Julie Ferring | |
This month our student gallery features the work of Stockton High School and Middle School Art Students.
Under the direction of the District Art Teacher, Mrs. Dorothy Ramey, students in the Stockton art classes are challenged to explore many forms of making art and to create pieces with personality. With all three levels of art students - beginning, intermediate, and advanced - in the same class period, it encourages mentoring and working together to creatively solve problems and have fun doing it.

Songwriters Showcase will take the outdoor stage on Thursday, June 20 from 7-9pm. We welcome singer/songwriter Martin Koop!
Emerging as a nationally touring Americana artist, Koop’s relentless pursuit of grit and groove, tone and well crafted stories are connecting with music lovers on the road on his tours and mini-tours. Funcoast Magazine referred to Koop as “Proof that Folk Music is alive and well.”
The 2016 Blue Sky Tour of the Southwestern US followed his well-received release of the Up Close CD featuring fourteen gritty, groovy songs about life and love and laundry. The Up Close album was selected by John Godfrey’s Radio Troubadour in April of 2018 as a “best new release.”

Time to get involved! We still need greeters for the gallery and volunteers to help with serving at openings, ushering at music and theatre events, garden maintenance, painting, and more!
All our volunteer opportunities are easily accessed through www.signupgenius.com.
On the main page, click on the magnifying glass icon in the upper right. Don’t let the “Our Mind-reading Device is on the Fritz” message confuse you. Fill the “SEARCH FOR A SIGNUP” box with the email volunteers@galenacenterforthearts.com and all upcoming events will be visible. This includes Gallery Openings, Theatrical events, Gallery Greeters, etc. This should make it easier for everyone to match interests with activities.
Thanks so much!
