IRS Delays
The IRS continues to experience unprecedented delays. It is taking the IRS up to 3 months to process certain returns. Here's a list of reasons your refund might be delayed:

  • You filed for the earned income tax credit or additional child tax credit.
  • You filed your return by mail.
  • Your return needs further review.
  • Your refund is suspected of identity theft or fraud.
  • Your return includes Form 8379 (PDF), injured spouse allocation -- this could take up to 14 weeks to process.

If you are tracking the status of your refund using the IRS "Where's My Refund" resource, here is what the status messages mean:

  • Received: The IRS has your tax return and is working to process it.
  • Approved: The IRS has processed your return and confirmed the amount of your refund, if you're owed one.
  • Sent: Your refund is now on its way to your bank via direct deposit or as a paper check to your mailbox. (Here's how to change the address on file if you moved.)

If you have not received your refund, we understand your frustration. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide any information beyond what is available on the IRS website. We appreciate your continued patience.
IRS Refunds on Unemployment Compensation
The IRS has started to recalculate and refund money to taxpayers who collected unemployment benefits in 2020 and filed their returns before the finalization of the unemployment tax waiver included in the American Rescue Plan.

Impacted taxpayers will receive letters from the IRS, generally within 30 days of the adjustment, informing them of what kind of adjustment was made (such as refund, payment of IRS debt payment or payment offset for other authorized debts) and the amount of the adjustment.

If you have questions after you've received your adjustment letter, please contact Tim Lewis at [email protected].
CTC Credit Reminder
If you do not wish to receive the advance Child Tax Credit payments or you need to make changes to your information, you must notify the IRS before July 15th, 2021, using the new IRS portal.

We will provide further instructions on creating an account and navigating the portal next week.
