WOW X WE NATION SUMMIT

We are beyond excited to share the success of the recent WOW X WE NATION Summit held on June 2, 2024, at the Harlem School of Arts. This transformative one-day event, sponsored by the West Harlem Development Corporation and partnered with We Nation, brought together justice-impacted women and community members to focus on economic development, job skills training, and career development.

The day kicked off with an uplifting opening session featuring inspiring remarks from The LOHM Founder and CEO Dr. Topeka K. Sam, and Lucinda Cross, Founder of We Nation. Both delivered powerful morning messages that set the tone for the day.

The event featured two impactful panel discussions. The "Activate Your Whole Self" panel, moderated by Patricia Robinson, included insightful contributions from

Dr. Te' Basset, Michelle Horne, and Angelina Rosado. The second panel, "Activate Your Story," led by Crystal Ferguson, showcased the experiences of Dr. Clover Perez, Founder of A Beautiful Heart Ministries Tiffany Vulcain, Naquasia Pollard, Founder and Executive Director of PureLegacee, and Bianca Ordoñez.

Attendees had the opportunity to engage in hands-on workshops focused on branding, financial wellness, and digital literacy. Starling Thomas, Communications Director for The LOHM, a filmmaker, writer, and brand strategist, led a powerful branding workshop specifically designed for justice-impacted women. Other workshops included "Financial Wellness and Wealth Building" by Dr. Malikah Murphy and "Navigating The Digital World" facilitated by The LOHM's P4E Training Coordinator, Nia Cosby.

One of the unique highlights of the summit was the "Black Man Can" session. This session was moderated by Brandon Frame, with panelists Khalif Johnson, Trent Griffin, and Enroy Bishop, who all brought valuable perspectives from the men’s community.

The event also offered ample networking opportunities, allowing attendees to connect with industry leaders, explore informational booths from local businesses and organizations, and gain valuable resources.

As the day came to a close, participants left with newfound skills, confidence, and an empowered sense of community. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the speakers, panelists, volunteers, and sponsors, including McDonald's and Fortune Society, who made this event a resounding success

From Incarceration to Inspiration: NY Liberty Game

Marta’s journey from incarceration to enjoying a VIP experience with her daughter is a powerful testament to the work we do at The LOHM. This unforgettable moment was made possible by the generosity and dedication of our Board Member and CEO of the NY Liberty, Keia Clarke. Her commitment to creating memorable experiences and fostering community engagement is truly commendable.

As Maddie prepares to embark on her college journey, this experience will be a cherished memory, reinforcing her passion for basketball and her dreams for the future.

Marta’s story of resilience and transformation continues to inspire us all, reminding us of the power of hope and perseverance.
