Our Mission: ROCCREW is committed to serving the physical and emotional needs of all cancer survivors. Through our shared rowing experience, we find a means to maintain wellness for our bodies, and courage and determination for our spirit.

We find healing on the water through the power of our commitment, and we hope to provide inspiration to all of those who face the challenges of cancer.

We are supporting people who have faced cancer or are currently under treatment by providing physical conditioning, rehabilitation, education, and camaraderie.

Welcome to the June 2025 edition of our ROCCREW newsletter! We are excited to share with you all of our news and upcoming events!!

ROCCREW Represents at the BCCR Pink and Teal Challenge!

We are grateful to our friends at the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester for allowing us to host a table at their annual Pink and Teal Challenge last month! We were excited to meet so many survivors and supporters who were interested in learning more about rowing with us and we hope to see many of them again at our next Learn to Row class this fall!

Here's a fun fact! It wasn't the rain that always kept our boats off the water in the month of May. The flow rate of the river was insane, at times flowing more than 8,000 ft3/s and hitting a high of 10,000 ft3/s on May 7th. Rowing downstream may have seemed like fun but getting back to the boathouse would have been quite an adventure and dodging debris and tree trunks treacherous. Ironically, it seemed like the best rowing days were the days that our Learn to Row boats were on the water! Our rowers looking to be in the Pittsford Regatta unfortunately didn't enough practice in to be fully ready to participate. Darn!

Our Tuesday rowers were excited to finally be back on the water!!!

WELCOME NEW ROWERS!!!!

We are excited to have four new rowers joining us on the water after a successful Fall/Winter Learn To Row experience and in just a few weeks we will have seven more having completed their training!

Everyone is welcome to row with us! We are a crew of cancer survivors and supporters dedicated to fueling our bodies and spirits while sharing a rowing experience.

There is much to be said for the relationships you make with your Learn to Row class, and the camaraderie you share with all of our fellow survivors and supporters once you join the crew.

If you are interested in rowing with us, we will have another Learn to Row class this fall. This gives you an opportunity to learn important techniques, skills, and build your strength so you are ready to row as a crew when you enter the boat. After four sessions in the tanks at Pittsford Indoor Rowing Center, you will get into our boat the Dragonfly with experienced rowers helping you get comfortable and ready to join the crew for the regular season. During a regular season rowers can choose to row one day a week, twice, or if ready to start preparing for regattas, up to three times each week.
